  • 23rd spiral - my only concern about your bees wax would be that it might colour the threads. If it's colourless then I don't see why you couldn't use it. Perhaps try it on a small design and see what you think? remember to leave it on a windowsill for a few weeks to check the wax doesn't react with the light to affect your work.

i am GUTTTED my laptop hard drive has died and I have lost a gazzioliion of useful emails, documents and baby pictures of my DS (thankfully uploaded to facebook) not to mention the fact i now have to go buy a new laptop.... oh this is SO not what I need right now!!
Sorry to hijack, when you say died, does it do anything or just error? Also if you have another computer, you can try removing the hard drive and reading it on there. You can buy replacement hard drives for about £30-£40. If you know someone who is computer savvy you can download knoppix, which is an OS that runs from the cd and allows access to the hard drive to recover stuff to usb. Hopefully its nothing too serious :)

Just thought I'd mention something I found in HobbyCrafts the other day that was new to me.

It's called "Thread Heaven" and it's a tiny little box of wax that you run the cotton along a couple of times before you start sewing. It's not sticky at all but it has helped no end with the tangles and twisting that can happen with stranded cotton.

You can feel it on the thread, but it's colourless and they say it doesn't affect the colour or the fabric.

I have seen this product mentioned before but never got round to buying some.
When you say you can feel it on the thread, can you feel it on your skin at all....like on your fingers?
I don't know if it's me or the batch of thread that's in kit I am doing but it's tangling quite alot so I am thinking about getting some.

    Thanks

No, it's not sticky on your fingers. You only have one finger (or thumb) on the wax to keep the thread in place while you draw it across the wax anyway.

It makes the thread a little bit stiffer, but also the wax seems to help the tangles to slip out rather than knot up, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the info. I was a little worried that whilst I'm stitching I would feel residue on my hands or fingers from the wax which would then make me want to keep washing my hands.
As that doesn't happen I'll research the price and buy myself some.

    Thanks again

Another question about thread heaven.....how many lengths of thread do you run through the TH at a time? Can you run a few through together or is it best to run each individual length through just before you use it?

thanks, it'll now get as far as "loading windows" but then saying it can't find the file to load it.

gonna go investigate that knopppix thanks, tho i think i may be screwed as i had to overwrite the drive to attempt to reinstall, still may be there somewhere.............................

I only started using it a few days ago and the design I'm working on (the Santas) only needs two strands at a time, so I'm using it on one thread then doubling up to sew with.

I can't see why it wouldn't work on more than one, though.
  • Very quiet on here! Guess everyone's busy stitching :-)

I finished a poppy picture last night which is for a friend for Christmas, it's been hanging around for two years, but cracked on with it at the weekend while my new kitchen was being fitted. Will frame it and get it wrapped at the weekend.
