I don't like frames or hoops either Dan'smum - infact they drive me mad. I like to be able to sew properly rather than stabbing at the material from either side...
I MUST NOT BUY ANY NEWS KITS....!0 -
oh no I have to say I love my new hoop. I started to get really anoyed with the fabric flapping about.
When I've finished this kit I will have my first (albiet very small) stash of thread:j So I was really pleased when somebody (sorry cant remember who) asked how they stashed all their bits and pieces, because I was about to ask the same question.
Lots of stitching done today, I reckon I could be finished by next weekend.LBM 04/10:j

I have all of my threads in a shoe box (or 6) with a list of contents stuck on the lid of each one
I also have the same list on a spreadsheet, so I can search it to see if i have it before I buy it - the list tells me which box to look in to find it.
I have plastic tubs with magazines and pattern books. I have all my... ahem... photocopies in plastic wallets which are in folders. All of my fabric is in another plastic box or two.
Works for me0 -
I got myself a "new" sideboard a couple of weeks ago to hold all (well, most!) of my crafting bits and pieces. There's loads of papercraft materials in there, but I managed to fit in most of my cross-stitch things too, no knitting stuff though. That is scattered about the house in carrier bags and baskets!
I keep my threads wound onto cardboard bobbins and stored in plastic storage boxes, three atm - 2 DMC and 1 Anchor. I keep some of my spare material in a lovely box we got chocolates in last Xmas, the rest is in a plastic box, together with some frames. I have a few books and magazines, some of which are downstairs here in the conservatory as I have been scouring through them looking for ideas for Xmas presents. I keep a record of what I make, especially ones I design or adapt for specific people. These are kept in wallets in a folder, next to the books.
WIPs are kept in zip-lock bags along with their threads, unless they are on frames that are too big for the bags. I have a table/lap stand which sits on the sideboard, with a pillowcase over the work to protect it from dirt and the sun.
Hope you get some ideas of how to store your materials from all the suggestions given in this thread.
Thoroughly depressed with the Scotland rugby result...the All-Blacks were just waaaay too good for them! Might go and watch a bit of the England hightlights...they did well!!...Or I might watch Merlin
Not managed to get any sewing done this week...still can't wear my glasses for too long  Will have another go tomorrow...really need to get on with these Xmas pressies!!!
Have a good weekend everyone.

I started taking pictures of every completed piece from 2003 onwards, I keep the pics in their own photo album, it's handy to remember what I have done and what I have stitched for various people.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Well all here they are my recently competed, current projects and UFO's so I can start showing you regular updates. Hoping this works as it's the first time I've used Flickr, normally use Photobook, but can't remember my log in details.
Thank you card - 13 Nov 10
Mainly back stitching to do on this one. There is a gift tag with this as well, but not sure if I'll be doing it or not yet.
New baby sampler - 13 Nov 10
Current baby sampler, 3 weeks until due date, so need to get a move on
Miniature Schnauzer - 13 Nov 10
Miniature Schnauzer I'm doing as a thank you for a friend, was going to be for her birthday, but that was yesterday so will aim for Christmas, but not holding out much hope currently as have so many other things to do before then.
DS's baby sampler
First baby sampler and the biggest piece I had done at that point, need to get this framed, but will wait until I finish the other sampler as want the frames to match. I finished it a year after he was born so hoping it won't take me that long to finish the current one.
Bookmark
Bookmark I bought and started years ago, but only finished yesterday. Have decided it will be the final part of Dad's Christmas present.
I also have the Grandparents Touch a Heart one I need to finish, but I'm so close only a small amount of back stitch I'll save that until I have finished it, needs to be done before Christmas as its a present for the Grandparents from the 4 (as it will be then) grandchildren.
Sorry for the mammoth post, but next updates should be shorter. :rotfl:
Thanks for all the advice on how you store your bits and pieces, I've been looking through various websites for how I will store things in the future, but for the time being everything is going into a lever arch file and polly pockets, especially as currently I only have kits and left over threads so not tons of things to store. I'll probably then buy a better storage solution with money I get for Christmas, but you have all given me plenty of ideas.0 -
I haven't done any cross stitch today
but have spent the time sorting out my threads. :j Its been tedious but well worth it because now I just have to open my spreadsheet and I can see at a glance whether I have the threads I need. Ive sorted my threads into A4 plastic pockets / bags according to their number (all the 100s in one bag for example) so this will make it much easier to hunt down the thread I want :j
