Hya Lilliant, what a lot of questions!!

First of all, welcome to this lovely thread, I hope you enjoy it here. You will get tempted by some lovely designs...or at least find some amazing web-sites to visit!! Some will save you money...but others will tempt you into parting with some serios dosh!!

Here's my go at some answers:

I only get the odd magazine if it has one or more designs that I want to sew, most of the shops round here don't stock many mags, so I don't get tempted very often! :D.

As I have accrued a reasonable collection of DMC threads and some aida and evenweave (all reduced online) over many years, I tend to go for charts, or design my own. I have hardly bought any kits, but I do have a few books I got YEARS ago when I was a member of a needlecraft bookclub, (they were vastly reduced then) and I have made many things using the charts within them.

I have only recently acquired a pen to mark my fabric, but have not used it yet as I have had sinusitis for weeks, making wearing my glasses too painful at times, so I can't sew much atm. Normally I only mark the centre lines with sewing thread and work out from there, following the colours and shapes as I go along.

I really need to get back to sewing again as I have a few presents waiting to be completed for Christmas...only 6 weeks left so I must get a move on!! Luckily I am able to knit without my glasses, so the socks and hats are getting made!! I have three pictures and 5 coasters to do yet :eek:!!

Good luck with your challenge...my main one has been put on the back-burner until after Xmas. :o:o:o

You will need to upload your pictures onto a picture-hosting site such as flicr or photobucket...I use picasa myself. You need to have posted about 20 or 30 posts (I think its about that many) before you will be allowed to upload piccies on MSE.

Hope this helps...we do try to get the best deals we can for our sewing stuff, after all that's what it's about isn't it!! Most of us don't have extravagant lifestyles and find that sewing keeps us happy and out of trouble....well, some of the time!! Some folk have had problems with depression, myself included, and I have found creating things with my hands has helped immensely.

So you see, we are careful with our money, and every so often, having saved money elsewhere, reward ourselves with a new project to work on. Life would be very dull and boring, if not downright horrendous, if we couldn't give ourselve treats every once in a while. Creating a lovely piece of work, possible as a present for someone else, is our way of enjoying ourselves...not bad eh!!

Sorry if this is repeating what others have said. Also, apologies if this sounds like I am preaching, I definitely don't mean to be, just as you didn't mean to offend when you asked your questions in the first place.

So, welcome again, and good luck with your projects. Can't wait to see some piccies soon, so get posting!!!!

Back on topic :) I haven't managed any stitching tonight, I went to a perfume party and was very MSE, didn't buy anything but hopefully I found some fundraising for DS's pre-school :)

I loved the bit about *can hear him splashing about* when he was in the bath :rotfl:

That would never happen in my house. My doors are locked pretty much 24/7. If the doorbell is rung I peek out of a window to see who it is before deciding whether to answer it or not. 9 times out of 10 the door goes unanswered :o

I even dislike letting delivery men into the house if an item is big and can't be handed over on the doorstep.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

Witchwoopiggy I have a teapot chart I can nudge you if you want it. It's called friends to cherish and it's designed by Joan Elliott. Let me know and I'll send it to you

I have tried using ordinary cotton to grid out blocks of 10 but found that I couldnt unpick it all properly so that was frustrating dont like the idea of using pins can see me pricking meself and doesnt it make the cloth a bit unwieldy? So I like the idea of a pen that saves a lot of unpicking (for me) although as yet I havnt bought one, but I am definately going too ;0)
Yes its an MSE site but it helps us to get the best deal for our money for whatever we want to buy. (but I wouldnt go into debt for my hobby and only spend what I have) I have got some great deals in the past and slowly built up over some years both Anchor and DMC threads. You can get Aida on the roll (on ebay) for a fraction of the price in the shops. The lovely peeps on here are quite happy to share patterns as well when they've finished with them, so cant get cheaper than that!
I think its a lovely hobby and stops the brain vegatating to much as with all that counting and measuring keeps the cogs whirling!!

Looking forward to seeing your photos when you are able to post :0)

Someone suggested using fishing line the other day - because you can just snip it at the top and slide it out. I thought that was an excellent idea. I am going to nip to the market tomorrow to see if I can find some on the £1 stall :)

I don't like using the pens - I think it's because I do things so slowly that they either fade or become a permanent fixture on the fabric. I prefer to mark every other stitch in normal black thread.
  • liliant welcome :)

Anyone know good places to get cross stitch coasters? Have seen them on ebay for £8.05 (inc p&P) for a pack of 10 square ones, but thought round ones might be nicer - sew and so have a set of 6 for 11.65 (not inc p&p)

    Really LOVE these ones:

but at that price.....I couldn't possibly

Louise, found these, any good for you, or do you want charts too?

Haven't had time to search the site properly as was looking for something else in my bookmarks at the time, so back to it! :D

Edit - Ooh, just had another look...there's LOADS of stuff there....:o
