Anyone know good places to get cross stitch coasters? Have seen them on ebay for £8.05 (inc p&P) for a pack of 10 square ones, but thought round ones might be nicer - sew and so have a set of 6 for 11.65 (not inc p&p)

    Really LOVE these ones:

but at that price.....I couldn't possibly

louise - if you are able to sit for 2 hours unpicking:T, then i certainly can muster up the oomph to unpick one stupid reindeer leg! it's just soo irritating  . so that's my mini challenge for today... get on with it then get on with the fun bit of finishing the silly little thing!

    ...

LOL, I missed this earlier :rotfl:

    Hope you get it done!!:D

Btw, I have caught up with myself since the unpicking incident, having the challenge kept me going whereas in the past I might have dumped it for a couple of weeks :o

I also love yankee candles but haven't bought any for YEARS which was torture whe i walked past the yankee candle shop in Norwich the other day.

When I bought my first YC I thought I had got a good deal at £15 so I asked Mum for some of my xmas budget and bought 2 more. Then I found a shop in Spalding that was selling the same size (the biggest one) for under £9! They also sell the beanswax YC for under £9 which are a more eco friendly candle...apparently...lol. Hubby has bought me 2 of these for xmas.
In the run up to xmas though they have put prices up to (IIRC) nearly £12 but that's still not a bad price IMO.
Then we went to cambridge a couple of weeks ago and some kind of homestore were selling certain fragrances of YC for £8.49 so I bought my Mum 2 for xmas.

So on xmas day Mum and I are swapping candles :rotfl:

Just wanted to add that stitching and yankee candles are my only vice too - and since I have built up my chest full of stuff I wont be spending much on anything for a few years now!

Have had a mega weird day ata conference with good speakers (Pie Corbett who is a fab bloke on writing) and some other man on 21st Century learning - but I had to sit next to the boss who is probably the most irritating person to be near for more than about 10 minutes and keeps making his own little 'ha ha I'm funny aren't I?' comments - grrrrrrrrr

Also sat there listening in the afternoon thinking I could actually listen and stitch at the same time - then I would be achieving even more with my time - have had the same thought when listening to sermons at church! Does this make me a bad person or does it make me resourceful?

  • dora i think that would be a very resourceful use of your time. I don't think the people doing the talking find it too pleasing tho. I always remember being in secondary school (year 9 i think) in assembly and suddenly the teacher taking it stopped talking........ walked half way up the room and boomed "What the heffalump (ok he didn't say heffalump but i think the word may be censored if i write it) do you think you are DOING???" and the boy (after jumpin 5ft into the air) turned round and said "my maths homework miss I forgot about it!! and I got it 1st period" ohhh those were the days........ I think he saw detention for a few days.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

I know I'm a little late to answer but I'm going to anyway.

I buy very few magazines, I have a stash from when my Mum used her Tesco points to buy me a sub that finished last Christmas. There are a few designs in there that I may stitch one day but I found there were so few designs that really inspired me that I asked Mum not to waste her Tesco points on continuing it. That said, I recently got offered a free copy of the new style Cross stitcher as I'm an ex-subscriber. They then also offered me 3 months for £1 on Cross Stitcher and Cross Stitch Collection so I'm getting 6 mags for £2 (and yes I will remember to cancel before they start charging more).

I have been slowly building up a collection of DMC threads so things I stitch now are mostly done in DMC, on evenweve bought from ebay or more trusted retailer if it's cheaper. I mark a central dot and a starting point dot with water erasable pen, and next project I might try the full gridlines, though I don't use the grid on the chart really so don't know how useful it'll be. My pen was only £2.95 though and is really useful.

Like a lot of people here, I don't smoke, don't drink, don't have any expensive fashion habits and therefore don't resent a few pounds on cross stitch supplies, even the pens and scroll frame etc that are not strictly necessary but are helpful to have. I would never go into debt for my hobby, but also there are other things that I would cut down on before stopping spending on cross stitch (pre-prepared food being the main one).

Thanks for the link to the mouseloft Giraffe, he's cute but I'm thinking a bit bigger than that. I love this one http://www.crossstitchuk.com/P/Cross-Stitch-Sunset-Sunset-Cross-Stitch-Giraffe-Mother-Baby-%289539%29.htm but she is a bit on the big side (48cm tall) and definitely too expensive.

Edit: To Add, I love this one too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Giraffe-Family-14Cnt-Aida-Ecru-NEW-/170503230615?pt=UK_Crafts_CrossStitch_RL&hash=item27b2c8d497 but is also expensive. Anyone want to pass me a nudge?
