Back on topicI haven't managed any stitching tonight, I went to a perfume party and was very MSE, didn't buy anything but hopefully I found some fundraising for DS's pre-school
lol love it!!!
Enjoy your time away witchwoopiggy!Anybody fancy tidying my house and feeding my kids so I can do some stitching?
ohh can they come do mine after??? I also have a HUGEEEE ironing mountain.
ohh well housework/ ironing/ sticthing may actually get done soon. been to see my itchy scratchy consultant today who (once i'd talked him out of hospitalising me) wants to sign me off work until it clears up (we could be talking a couple of months we could be talkig the next 5 months!!). gotta go back to a day clinic on tuesday so i can be 'observed' over a period of time and may have to go back every couple of days. am on 10 anticbiotic tablets a day for next week in the meantime.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
I splashed out on my thread storage system. I have the DMC gold concept stitchbows and plastic wallet files. I put them in basic black ringbinders and used stickers and my printer to make labels for each pocket so that each thread has it's own labelled place. I also have a DMC gold concept travel roll that is designed for 20 stitchbows (but can hold 40 max) that I use for whatever colours I am using on my current project.
I know that I have splashed out far more than necessary and a simple thread box and cardboard bobbins would have been much cheaper, but I could afford to buy the first bits when I wanted them and have since just bought a couple of the wallets and 3 or 4 packs of stitchbows each time I replenish my thread supply. I now have enough wallets for each DMC thread to have it's place and only need 180 skiens of thread and 30 stitchbows to complete the collection! I'm looking forward to being able to pick any design out of a mag and KNOW I've got the threads to be able to start right away.
As for my fabric, it's stored with my kits in an old mini-suitcase on wheels left over from when I was a 'The Body Shop At Home' consultant. currenty in the bedside table of the spare room of all places. Will have to move when I eventually find a lodger to move in though.0 -
Can't believe no-one took me up on my offer of my kids and the cleaning in return for letting me stitch:p
Funy that huh......:rotfl:23rdspiral wrote: »louise - i did it!!! :j i unpicked that dratted reindeer leg! and restitched it in the right place! still not finished but now back on track. thanks!!

I started off with stitchbows but got annoyed with them
Thing is, I unravelled them and had about 70 stitchbows sitting in a padded envelope and meant to stick them on ebay and for the life of me I can't think what I have done with them:mad:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Stop press- I actually put down the knitting (knitted half a scarf yesterday while off with bad throat and head) and did some of Rocky point and really enjoyed it!:D
Am feeling a lot better today and able to concentrate so I may do a bit more tonight unless my friend comes round to watch strictly then the knitting will have to come out as we natter too much!
As for storage I have stuff everywhere:o I have a bedroom we use as an office as Dh works from home and I have a desk in there where I mark and plan. In there I have a mini cupboard which I stole from the kids room which has bead boxes, coasters, fabric and my sewing machine threads and power cable and pedal. I have 5 plastic boxes of threads on plastic cards on a bookshelf in there along with magazine holders full of kits and magazines. Under my desk I have a lidded wicker basket which is full of fabric and wool, then there's a mini- suitcase and a wicker basket full of wool.
Downstairs next to my chair in the lounge I have 3 project bags, a sewing basket and a seagrass basket with wool, magazines and bits and bobs in.
Looks like I have a thing for baskets:rotfl:It all sounds really messy too but I assure you it's all very tidy and designed to look as if there appears less than there is;)Cross Stitch Challenge Member ?Number 2013 challenge = to complete rest of millenium sampler.0 -

Well if they turn up I'd be more than happy to buy them from you, don't worry if not though and I'll just buy what I need next time I order threads. I'm trying to decide if I can justify rdering 180 threads ths time to complete the colection but I think sadly I'm going to have to limit myself to about 50 this time. I'll still get there in the end to have them all, but I won't push myself financially to do it.0 -
Hello everyone
I've been following the CSC since the summer, but only joined in October; I've been REALLY inspired to 'get on and finish stuff' after seeing your fantastic projects.:T That's just the nudge I needed. Hope you don't mind a long-ish post???
But I do have a question or two - as this is a MONEY SAVING WEBSITE FORUM, why are a lot of you spending SO much money on kits and magazines?????????
Also, why use all those pens and pencils to mark fabric?? I just stitch the middle horiz. and vert. with machine thread, then use large pins to find the starting point for a border, outline or framework of a pattern or start of the pattern. Then after sewing it, find another outline near it, count with pins (I put in one every 10 stitches then remove them when I've started the next outline), and so on until all the outlines, borders and framework is done, then all I have to do is 'colouring-in' which is a breeze - stress-free NO COUNTING to the end!! And no pen or pencil marks to wash off either. I love the map of Europe that Louise is stitching - that would have been ideal to do this way - do the border round the map, then find where the coastline meets the border - do that, then the country borders, working from the coastline. then (apart from the lettering and the flags) just colouring-in the countries.
I set myself a challenge - am I allowed to do that??? before I was given my number (41), of finishing a project I'd started in 1998 and have been doing off and on (more off since then) and told myself I was going to get it finished before this Christmas.
I had been given a postcard with a picture of an embroidery and as I was unemployed I thought I'd chart it and sew it to keep me sane. Started with graph paper and coloured pencils, then charted it onto computer. I'd like to attach a photo of what it looked like in August this year, but I'm not tekkie and can't work out how to - HELP - PLEASE !!!! - then I started following your posts and got inspired to work harder. I'll photo it again soon when I've learnt how to attach it to a post, to show you how you've shamed me into getting on with it:T:T:T
Keep up the good work.
My name is Flat Eric and I'm a cross stitch shopaholic :rotfl: I have more than enough supplies to keep me busy for many many years to come yet I still buy more stuff !! I know this is a mse thread but cross stitching is my hobby and I find it very relaxing and very therapeutic for my health and wellbeing. I have a longish commute each day to work and busy myself with my cross stitch and my audio book and thus arrive into work in a relaxed and refreshed stateIts almost like I go into a different world. other people around me simply do not exist, its just me and my cross stitch.
I do drink but don't smoke. I don't go out clubbing or the like - (would much rather go out for a nice meal) but if you think how much a night out drinking costs when you add in things like taxis etc, I could get quite a lot of supplies for the same money. I think we all have our vices - mines cross stitch :rotfl:I don't object to your post and I am not offended by it in anyway but just thought I would explain / well confess that I'm a cross stitch addict. I think cross stitch is very good value. a kit that may cost £10 odd will mean hours of rewarding time stitching it and there is nothing like handing it over when finished to its intended recipient who knows that it has been stitched with much love.0 -
I too have vast amounts of stuff to work my way through - but still can't resist bargains! I have a couple of subscriptions that are gifts, and that keeps me busy.
On the subject of not being able to resist a bargain, I've got one here I will NEVER use and wondering if someone would like to give it a home. It's on black aida, which I cannot stand stitching on, so no real idea why I bought it (eBay bargain). Can't post piccie as there isn't one. It's Vonnie and Hilda, called Firefairy. It's huge!
PM me if you would like it, even if only for the aida and threads, none of which I will ever use. We are short of space since moving from a big house to a small one, so everything that I don't want has to go.

Oh, and I tried reselling it, no one wanted it, tried putting it on Freecycle and twice had a no show for collection. So now it needs to go - and I know someone here will actually want it!

Thank you for the kind welcomes all
Have finished the Nelson and Tibs card for Mum last night. Came out alright if I do say so myselfI even managed to do French Knots which I had always struggled with up to now! Have been down with a lergy the last day or two, so had plenty of time snuggled under the sleeping bag with various cats
I sorted through all my threads yesterday and wound them onto bobbins in my thread box. I have FAR too many kits and charts BUT I still bought 4 more from mouseloft yesterday I just could'nt resist. They did only come to £10.67 inc postage so not too bad.....:o
Have decided to complete a sampler I started in 1998  Called Love Poem. Originally started when I was married but no longer so would it be in bad taste to do it for OH????
I have 2 massive kits to do and I think that'll be for next year. I can do big kits but struggle with using the frame, I have a couple of hoops, but prefer to have the fabric loose....
Anyway I did see that this is a continuation thread!!! Well done for trying to keep it quiet! I am finishing work in about an hour and out tonight so I may not need quite so many cuppasHave a lovely weekend all ...... x
