Just having a wee nose while I am on my lunch break - only get half hour.

A little sad today. Put the in memorian notice in next weeks local rag for my late hubby.

    Mark Kenny - died 04/06/2005 aged 42 - missed always - Jean x

As you can see it will be 5 years next week. Will take flowers to where we scattered the ashes - 5 red roses (one for each year).

Hubby (Micheal) said something weird/odd last night, when I mentioned I needed money to put this in paper. He has no objection me doing it but should I not consider stopping after this year. I don't what to feel about that. When is the best time to stop. He is working next week - so I will be home alone with Sam.

Sam goes to vet today for his/her first set of jags. He/she will be 10 weeks on Sunday. Will find out also is it a boy or a girl too.

Wish I brought some sewing to work - boss is off on holiday and I have managed to get everything done this morning. Will start work again on my golden earth.

    Kind wishes

    sweetcarer ;)

I think that it's lovely that you do that every year and you should carry on doing it as long as it feels right for you.

Sweetcarer I agree with ruth honey. You should do it as long as it feels right for you. You'll know yourself if you ever want to stop. It's a very beautiful thing to do.

Well, I think it is a lovely thing to do but am wondering...perhaps it is making current hubby feel second best??

Maybe a chat about how he feels would be a good way to go.

Incidentally- do people actually read memorials and stuff in the paper??

Most of the women in my family read the memorials. When they get together the convo usually involves a good few minutes of ''Did you see in the paper, suchandsuch has been gone x years this week.....doesn't time fly''

Both my sets of grandparents have bits put in the paper for their birthdays and death anniversaries. I think for my Mum and her sisters it's their way of feeling like they are still doing something for their parents.
My own personal feeling is that I have told hubby not to bother putting bits in the paper for me at all. I have told him to spend the £££ on extra flowers for my grave :)

    Hi everyone

I'm still feeling really tired and drained after yesterday, I had been dreading it for so long and although I still have the next one to come, I a bit better about it now I know what to expect. The woman doctor was lovely but the solicitor was a bit of a know it all, you should have seen the doctors reaction when he said there was no difference between depression and bipolar! He tried to tell me that it was all relative to the person. Anyway I have been having sleepless nights for weeks thinking of it so now its temporarily over all I want to do is sleep!

As for stitching, I persevered and although the treble clef is hard Im really getting into it now although ignoring the backstitch. Im finished half of the bottom pattern so thats a quater of the way through already.

btw I dont suppose anyone has this pattern? My brothers partners daughter went through my cross stitch magazines to see what she wanted me to stitch her for christmas, I told her to pick one of the charts in the magazines but she fell in love with this.

Now where did I put my klennex.

Bubbles - you are something - quite amazing - your story is awe inspiring. I am proud to know you and hope we have many more years of freindship swapping stories from our lives and stitching.

    sweetcarer ;)

Thanks once again everyone for your comments on the story. I was really overwhelmed by the comments I got about it on here. I amso pleased that I found this thread as its grown to be something so special to me. I honestly dont think I would have finished the Angel or had the guts to write that story without your support.

Bubbles-Well done for sharing your story. It's a huge thing to put it into writing, yet along share it in a magazine. I hope they do publish it as then you'll get some goodies too!
Everyone brings joy-Stitching on linen was quite fiddly and did slow me down. It would look good stitched on evenweave too, but as it was our 8th wedding anniversary (linen is on the modern gift list for 8th) I decided it had to be stitched on linen. I won't be using it often, though!
I know I've offered before, but can I please send you some evenweave to experiment with? I have plenty of small pieces, so it's no trouble to send some to you.
Here's my June challenge for you to add to the list-thanks!
27 Ruth Honey wants to complete the square for the quilt (I'm stitching the letter F, I believe)
I've got a busy month next month as it's my 30th birthday, so I don't think I'll get much stitching done. I'll be away the week of my birthday-Center Parcs with some friends :j-and have lots of other little things booked up too. The priority is the quilt square, but if I get chance to stitch something else, it'll be a bonus. Might try and do some of the Crisp Afternoon, or maybe go smaller and work on another UFO.

Sweetcarer-Forgot to say before that your kitten is gorgeous!!! If you want a cat sitter, I'm available! I'll even put my stitching out of temptations way so that I can play with him (or is it a 'her'? Lucky the name Sam is suitable for either!)
How is your Mum doing, by the way? Oh! Just noticed your post in another window saying she's come out of hospital. Send her our love!

*Louise*-Happy 1st anniversary to you for tomorrow! Hope you and your husband have a wonderful day!

MrsM-Where are you??? Getting worried now as you haven't posted here in a little while-feels like AGES! Hope you're OK. :)

Had a call from a friend this morning to tell me she's 8 weeks pregnant! I know I've said I'm not stitching stuff for other people, but I already have a Somebunny to Love toy in my stash. I think he's got a waistcoat or bib you stitch on. Thought I'd do that for her as the girl I'd planned to do it for hasn't been in touch with me since October!

Anyway, I'm off to bed as my eyes are feeling reeeealllly heavy! Night girls! xxx

Ruth, ok I will relent and let you send me some evenweave. If you dont already have it if you remind me to give me your address after the weekend otherwise I will forget. I'm really tired right now so just trying to reply to all the posts as quick as I can.

I have seen the Somebunny ready to stitch toy in one of the magazines before and they are so cute. They are having a baby boy next door in 2 months and I was bidding on one of the somebunny toys for them on ebay but it went well out of my price range. Im sure your friend will love it.

BUBBLES good luck for today. After reading your story, I can't believe they are thinking of finding you fit for work! Yes, there are some real scroungers out there who are faking it, but you are so obviously not one of them.

And your angel is beautiful; I wish I had the patience to stitch like you!

To be honest I cant believe they are thinking of finding me fit for work either. I want to work, I hate having no money, I have always been so proud of the fact I am indipendant and have worked hard to take care of myself so living on benefits is not something I want to do. But at the moment every time I think of getting a job I just feel sick. I think it would only be a matter of time before I couldnt cope and tried to end things again. I do hope I will be working, at least part time before christmas.

As to the communal stitiching project, I quite like the house one too. Are we going to do anything about cards??

    Talking of Challenges:

    JUNE:
No 13 Keiss 21 Complete the two quilt squares; design and make a singing bookmark/card for niece and hopefully finish the second chart page of The Astronomer

Not much then!! I also want to make a couple of cushion-covers for my lil sis, as well as a couple of machine-sewn patchwork cushion covers for us here (using cheap fleece throws I got last month.

Right, off to check out some designs for my niece...and get the squared paper out....

Judging from the posts I think the House has pretty much been chosen as the communal project for those that dont want to do the stitch n stash. I think I might make mine for one of my brothers family as my nephew is autistic and would like seeing himself in it. I will scan in the pattern when I feel more "me" if you get what I mean, if everyone that wants it sends me a pm. I've got spotty butterflys but if everyone else what wants it sends me their address again ayway, my address book is crap, everyone who ever emails me is in it so I have about 500 viagra sellers there! Its hard finding proper addresses, I will fix it eventually.

As for the cards, I know a lot of people mentioned being up for it. Maybe after the bank holiday everyone interested could send me their birthday, things they like stitching and things they like receiving. Hopefully I wont feel so overwhelmed then so will feel up to collating it.
Louise- Congradz on becoming an aunty.

sweetcarer- im glad to hear your mum is home.

Mrs M - Hope your Ok.

Bubbles - *hugs*, It so brave to be sending your story in and sharing with everyone. Glad to here the tribunal had been ajourned.

I'm now scared of getting reassesed as i know they'll say i can work with help. But what i find daft is that were not as fit/ well as the general population yet there's millions of people on the dole and the new government polices basically think its fair for us to be competing for jobs with "normal" people. As a employer if i had a choice between someone with health problems meaning they might not be reliable, and who have been out of work for 2 years. Or someone who is on JSA, is able to get to interveiws, is fully fit and only left their last job as the company were laying people off or had went in to administration, its a no brainer for the employer.

Imo they dont need to have more people competing for jobs, also suerly this new get people off Incapacity Benefit is going to effect the job market at a time that it isnt needed- it would be different if we hadnt had the ressesion. I dont agree with the way the system is but i also dont agree with how it was either. They need to find a better system.

Anyhow sorry for going OT. Back on topic, i went to Hobby Craft yesterday- thanks to whoever it was who reminded us of the sale (most the non stitching stuff was reduced when we went in last week so we it was about to start). I bought 4 small cross-stitches and my mam bought 3 DMC yesterdays kits (or is it yesteryears i allways get muddled) and a large sampler. I also bought a draw orginiser thingy (i dont really know the real name and they dont have it online), so i'm going to use that to store my thread rather than the pocket organisers i was going to get.

I saw a gorgeous angel but it was soo expensive - nearly £40, it was very smiler to Bubbles one- it had birds around the head and was blue. It had beads in it too.

I also totally embaresed my self at one point- there was a woman wearing the same colour top as my mam and had similar hair- and my mum had went to a different isle to me so i thought i'd found her- i wasnt payimg much attention tho- still looking at stuff and i started talking to her like it was my mam, only when she spoke did i realise i wasnt my mum :o .

They had loads of kits reduced. But after searching through them my hands were flithy, are all hobbycraft stores like that or is our just particulary manky?

I also got a frame in TK Maxx for £3 - our store had loads in clearence reduced from £15 and £10 for either a 50cmx40cm or 40x40cm - a couple had smashed glass and i just got the impression there was so many as people couldnt be bothered to sort through.

Spotty butterfly, I have a couple of fairy patterns that I have got from charity shops which are similar to the one I did if you want me to copy them for you. Or even if you wanted to do my angel in the original colours. I could give you the threads I have left and also two of the beads I used were used in the proper design so you could have them. You wouldnt be left with needing to buy much. Was it the hobbycraft at team valley you went to? I havent been for ages but last time I was the paterns were in such a state.

I dont blame you for being scared about your benefits, in a year you are going to be on the same benefit as me but if I manage to pass next mnth there is no reason why you wouldnt. I think they should have special rules for those mentally ill as this pressure can be deadly. Like you, I think the way they are doing it all is wrong, ESA the benefit I am on is a nightmare. They are making 95% of people go to tribunal. If there is 1 job in the whole world suitable for you they move you onto job seekers until you get that 1 job.

Hi bubbles, oh my. That is very kind of you to share. I'd picked up on bits and pieces from your normal posts, but gosh you've been through the mill. i too can vouch that stitching (crafting & writing too) is good for depression, so you've got me thinking that your article should also be published in a health mag or womens mag too! to let others know is so good for you!:)

I cant see how they could pass up your article, its had me in tears. your story is very moving and is also Very Well Written. (and i had to smile when you kinda quoted me - i did and do mean it!).

(sorry, i'm ever the pesamist at the moment - i hope you posting it here doesnt count as it being 'published'? i shouldnt think so, but mags ect like 'new' material. though i've seen some that have been re-hashed from blogs so i doubt it will matter. if it does, you could always say you were getting our 'approval' as we were mentioned!!)

I hadnt thought that they might count it being posted on here as it being published, I hope thats not the case but there is only us on here so doubt they would ever find out. It was your quote I used, I couldnt quite remember it and couldnt be bothered to go through the posts to find it so it might not be exactly what you said. I did a creative writing course years ago and maybe that all came bck when I wrote the article! My mum always said I should write a book about when I was friends and travelled the world with a celeb but he would probably sue me!!!

It annoys me the system. A few years back when my late hubby was alive they came to assess him to see "if he really was disabled". At that time my hubby was in a wheelchair, muscle wastage, no hearing (profoundly deaf), epileptic.

They came to the house - the woman thought he was just ignoring me as he wasn't listening and she wanted him to walk - I said he would fall and hurt himself as he can't unaided. Still she wanted him to do it and yes he fell. I nearly threw the woman out she was so ignorant. We managed to keep our benefits as I asked for a second person to assess him and reported the first once for insolence.

OMG that woman sounds shocking. I would have had a fit. The female doctor at mine was lovely but the solicitor was a bit pompus. I was petrified and they could both tell, I couldnt stop shaking and thought I was going to throw up, they said now I have been once they hope I wont be scarednext time but I get scared stepping out of my front door!

OK, I'm really sorry guys but I am going to fail on my May challenge. I am putting the stupid horrible bookmark away before I throw it through the window. I absolutely hate it .

I don't have a frame that will hold the aida band properly, it keeps going really loose. It's like trying to sew on jelly. I've tried to persevere but it's put me in such a bad mood tonight I'm officially giving up and moving onto my June challenge instead. No party for me this time

Sorry for being a quitter but for some reason this bookmark has really annoyed me....can you tell :rotfl: Funny though, I feel soooo much better now the pressure is off. My June challenge is definitely this and I'll enjoy every minute of it:

No 4 Simac - To complete my letter U for the Quilt, and to try to finish 1 A4 page of Nightmare before Christmas

If I've calmed down enough, I'll try and do the bookmark for his Christmas present instead.

Sorry to hear that you hate your bookmark, I felt the same about the treble clef a few days ago.

For all those who have given up on their challenge or isnt going to complete it your not letting anyone down. I didnt even chose one this month as I couldnt think of one! Its meant to be a bit of fun and encouragement but life does get in the way sometimes and as long as we enjoy our stitching, whether we complete the challenge or not, we are all winners.

Jean its lovely that you have done that for your first husband, as for how long to do it for - only you can know that. I can see both sides though, you loved your first husband and that is never going to change but maybe your new husband feels deep down that he is 2nd best and you are settling for him when your first husband is the love of your life. Of course its not the case, its like how parents can love two children in different ways but men can be sensitive. Personally, Im not sure if I would keep putting the advertisement in the paper every year, 5th year does seem like the right time to stop that but nothing would stop me going to lay flowers on his grave on his birthday, wedding anniversary and date of his death. Sorry if this sounds insensitive, its the MSE'r in me knowing how much advertisements in papers cost! Both of your husbands are lucky to have you. :A

I must have missed something - I keep seeing people refer to 'the house' as a communal project.
