For those who asked, Stealing the Moon is here:

I have got a fair bit done, but mainly cos it's the weekend so I had a bit of extra time to spend on it :)

Ps. don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking hobbycraft, the place was a godsend for me when I was making the table decs, flower girl wands etc for my wedding last year. It's just mad to spend 90p each on threads when you can get them for 37p. Especially if you need a lot of them :)

The 2 local shops I use for little bits & pieces charge 70p & 80p per skein. Compared to HobbyCraft that's not as bad as I first thought.

I had a great afternoon & into early evening stitching today, got lots done and was very pleased with myself.....that was until I realised I had made a stupid mistake. I have stitched a leaf one row too high near the fairys foot. I then had to add another stitch to the foot to make it look right. At the moment it looks ok and I don't intend unpicking it, though that might change when the backstitching is done :o
I did have one little ray of sunshine....I ran out of a colour with quite a few more stitches to do but on checking the threads I bought for the other fairy the colour is there so I now have plenty of it.

I must admit I am quite disappointed in the lack of spare thread left over so far, especially for a DMC kit.
Already I have had to substitute a couple of stitches here and there for a different shade of what should be there because I have completely ran out of a couple of colours.
It's not a big deal because the substitutes have looked ok but I shouldn't have to substitute colours at all.

thanks for the moan :o :rotfl:

Shelly - you're right, you shouldn't have to substitute colours - you should email DMC and tell them what's happened and they will send you out extra threads.

One shortage I can understand, but it happening with a few colurs in one kit? There's deffo been a mistake made.

Naughty, especially when you think how much they charge for their kits. I often wonder why they are so expensive, as the designs will be produced by computer, plus the cost of the fabric, thread and sheet of paper plus a poly bag - where's the value?

I agree with you and have decided not to substitute anymore should I need to do so but will wait until kit is finished and e-mail them to complain and see what (if anything) they offer.

Sweetcarer - yay at starting it!! :j

Can I ask - where did you find such a large piece of 'Magic Aida'? Whenever I have seen it it has only been sold in much smaller (prepackaged) pieces.

I found it on Ebay - it is 50x75cm piece.

Computer working again - found a patch - really annoyed at the broadband helpdesk, hopeless at helping.

I don't like hobbycraft myself - too expensive. I try to keep all my excess threads so I have a wee bit as back up if need be.

Hoping to frame floral alphabet next month, depends tho - got gas and electric bill £300 . Also hubby needs to get his provisional and driving lessons - his american licence has expired and he needs a uk one now if he wants to drive here and when we go back to the States. We are hoping to go in October (his parents 50th wedding anniversery - another cross stitch job for that).

Hope you arm gets better soon MrsMac. Well done Louise in completing your stitch. Keeping going all. Hubby said something nice last night - cross stitch is really helping me with my depression - I don't get so anxious when I do it - I seem to absorb into the cross stitch and forget everything else (even the washing outside).

    Kind wishes to all

    sweetcarer ;)

If you do find the chart at your Mum's, I've got loads of DMC threads so if you let me have the thread no's I could sort them out for Bubbles. (I buy my DMC in Florida for 35 cents (20 pence) so i duplicate most of them and then wind them onto those bobbins - love that job it's so therapeutic!!))

Yes it is!! It's a DMC Flower Fairies kit. The Rose fairy one. I'll get onto calling them right now.
    Thanks!

Edited to add ~ Just called them and they are sending out some of each colour, don't know how much though, I'm assuming a skein?!?
