Thought I'd pop on and show you all my slow but steady progress with my 1st HAED. I started her last Friday and apart from Saturday (as it was my birthday) I have done a little bit each day. I am happy now I can see a picture forming.
I mentioned before that I am finally using my frame to work this one on but I am finding I'm getting backache/pain between shoulder blades. I'm tempted to take it off the frame and put it on a hoop so I can curl up as I usually do when stitching but I'll perservere.£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0 -
Hi everyone
I don't post very often, but I lurk.
Anyway, I was in TK Maxx's home section this afternoon, in Manchester, and noticed they had some DMC kits in reduced from £16.99 to £5.99. They were mainly landscapes. I am hoping they will be reduced some more as it would be worth buying them just for the thread and the aida, I think.
May be worth checking your local TK Maxx in case they have some in too.
Now I must get on with the little stitch I am doing for my Mum's Mother's Day present - it's a Lizzie Kate design - 'Official Tea Lover' .
Happy Stitching!Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Hi poppett - coming along nicely there.
Just a suggestion for you - have you tried putting a cushion on your knees then the frame on top? I find having it raised a little higher stops me leaning down and causing backache.
Also - attach your work so you are working at the bottom of the frame, rather than the top iyswim, then move the fabric down as you get higher up.
My own HAED is almost finished - I'm down to half of the last page to go. However I need to put it down for a few days as I have to go away this weekend so won;t work on it again till at least MondayHopefully this time next week I shall be posting the final pics though :j (will be nice to see it washed and without all the blue lines through it lol):rotfl:

Do any of you need to use a thimble when stitching?
I just wondered because I have been stitching nearly everyday for about 5 or 6 weeks (which isn't long but for me that's going some) and the end of my middle finger does occasionally get sore where I use it to push the needle up through the back of the fabric.
Last night the end of the needle actually went into my finger a little way and Lordy did it hurt!
Today I have had to stitch with a few layers of micropore tape over the end of my finger
That got me thinking about getting a thimble, not a metal one though, a rubber one. I used to use a rubber one at work and they are great.
Have seen a good deal on ebay for a selection of sizes so if my local craft shop doesn't sell them I'll be buying from ebay.
I thought I'd ask the question because I am nosyand never thought about using a thimble before.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
LOL shelley, I had to actually pick my stitching up and check how my fingers used the needle (Not something I had thought about over the past 15 years):o:rotfl:
I now know I don't actually use my fingertip to push the needle. I hold the eye with my left hand to push it through, then take hold of the needle with my right hand to finish pulling it through...does that make sense lol
Everyone's technique is different, if you are getting pain then a thimble seems like the best idea, they aren't expensive, and I would go with the rubber one as well.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
