Does anyone have any suggestions on ways I could reuse Christmas cards?

I usually cut mine up to make gift cards for next year, and whatever's left I use for shopping lists.

I use cards that have a 'central' design to make little gift boxes to use for prezzies or to just hang on the tree.

    • Detach front from back.
    • Draw a margin on all four sides on the back of the 'front'. The width of the margin will be the depth of the box.
    • Score along all four lines to make folding easier.
    • The four lines will have made 'squares' at each corner. Cut one side of each square and fold the other side. This will give you tabs for the corners.
    • Fold along the scored lines.
    • Stick the corners and this will have made your lid.
    • Repeat with the 'back' of the card, making the margin the tiniest bit wider (so as to be slightly smaller for the lid to go over).
    • Make a matching 'box' from plain or pattered paper to line the 'card' box if there is too much writing in the original card.
This is a lot simpler than it sounds. Honestly.

What a great idea, I'm going to try this tomorrow!:T
  • wanna-b-rich: thanks for the advice. I will have a play with all the various materials I've got and see what I can come up with. I'm a crafter, have cupboards full of 'bits', so I should be able to find something! Going to look for fluffy socks and slippers when I go out to Primani on Saturday.

  • nikki2804: yes, that sounds like silicone glue to me... it has a certain 'smell' to it and it is like rubber when it dries.... and if it came from a crafty person that's probably what it is.

Brilliant idea! I have tons of Christmas cards I could use to make these...thanks :)

I lurked rather a lot on the other thread, but I got loads of ideas from all of you on there (thank you!)
As I left it rather late, I only made the face cloth reindeer's which went down rather well with my daughters teachers. And a dammit doll for my eldest sister, which was a huuuge achievement since I am rather rubbish at sewing.

I am going to buy more craft goods in the sales and get a few craft books in. I hope the Book People will have some in when I go at the weekend. I purchased the Usborne Christmas things to stitch and sew book before Christmas even though it's aimed at kids..its has some rather nice bits to make in. Another book I recommend from Amazon is the Plush-o-Rama, love the monsters in there.
