Hi all I have bought some (200g) cream chunky wool to make a scarf for xmas pressie for next year (will repeat if it goes well for a lot of other friends) only thing is I can't find a pattern for a chunky scarf - any ideas of where to look? many thanks - sheyo

You need to register at https://www.ravelry.com

It is the knitters essential resource - you'll never need to buy a pattern again!

The seach is easy, some patterns are pay-for and some are free, but you can search for only free patterns. You can search by type of project, type of yarn. It is THE best knitting website ever.

Ummm... I don't know if you can tell, but I'm a big fan.... and I'm not affiliated in any way, I promise!
  • Hi All,

May I join? I don't know when I'll be able to start crafting, as I have cataracts and therefore can't see well for small stuff, but I'm a crocheter and beader mainly.

One thing to remember if using US crochet patterns is that they number their needles differently, and also they name the stitches differently, for instance Double crochet (E) is Single Crochet (US). Once you get used to it it's fine though.

    Cheers, HG

It's a great idea to make scarves for people. They are easy to knit without too much concentration, or you can watch TV while you click away. Last year I made hats, mittens, and jumpers, toys - some of them were very simple patterns yet the recipients were delighted with a gift that had been home-made with love. I use any leftover wool for simplest fold-over purses or toys, for top frugality.
    Good luck with your project.

  • Blimey! This thread's growing already!
  • Me too for this year please.
I have been making christmas cards and decorations, filling jars with sweets or bath salts and adding ribbons etc for the last 2 years, but this year I want to actually make some proper gifts from scratch.
I have just ordered some books from the book people which should give me some ideas and I plan to make or have a go at making soaps, candles, sweets, fancy pin cushions:cool: and I really want to knit some funky chunky scarf & beret sets for my daughter and niece but I will have to learn to knit first:o
