I've started! 2010 isn't even here yet and I've already started on next Christmas's pressies! lol :rotfl:

Yesterday I bought a fab lot of gardening gifts from Sainsburys for half price, which I'm going to split up and make a gardening hamper for my MIL. I'm going to make some bits to go in with it and today I've been making some felt flowers (to decorate a home-made peg bag) and thought I'd order some dolly pegs to accompany it.

I've really enjoyed working with felt - something I haven't done before. Have just ordered loads more colours and varieties so I can go a bit mad. :o

Does anyone have any suggestions on ways I could reuse Christmas cards?

A friend bought me a beautiful notebook for christmas so this will now be my christmas book. I aim!! to keep a neat record of what I have made or bought for each person. The book will be kept in my bag so that if I am out and about I can keep an eye on the bargains and then decide if I need what is on offer. We will have 5 grandchildren soon and the family will keep growing for a while I'm sure as they all want big families, yippee, so I think it will be good to keep a check on how much I approx spend on each as we don't go crazy on them

I use cards that have a 'central' design to make little gift boxes to use for prezzies or to just hang on the tree.

    • Detach front from back.
    • Draw a margin on all four sides on the back of the 'front'. The width of the margin will be the depth of the box.
    • Score along all four lines to make folding easier.
    • The four lines will have made 'squares' at each corner. Cut one side of each square and fold the other side. This will give you tabs for the corners.
    • Fold along the scored lines.
    • Stick the corners and this will have made your lid.
    • Repeat with the 'back' of the card, making the margin the tiniest bit wider (so as to be slightly smaller for the lid to go over).
    • Make a matching 'box' from plain or pattered paper to line the 'card' box if there is too much writing in the original card.

This is a lot simpler than it sounds. Honestly.

I use my old cards as gift tags for next year. I use fancy scissors to cut out the design, checking there is no writing on the back, When cut out I punch a hole through the tag and thread some sparkly ribbon/cord through the hole to fasten it to the gift.

  • I am determined to lose weight!:kisses3:
Weight loss so far 2 stones 6lbs!! :j:j
  • nikki2804: yes, that's a good idea, but I'd have to buy the slipper socks as I don't think I'd be much good at making them, and that would bump the price up. Good thought though... I did see some in Poundland before Christmas, bet they haven't got them now!

chillin_nutter: I think the bits on the bottom are the non-slip things that stop you sliding about everywhere. No idea how you'd do those, although maybe getting some silicone glue and glueing little dots on them would do it?

I bought a white flannel in Tesco today for 25p, and a clear bauble with pink & lilac bath fizzers in, which I'll use for the 'topping' of the cake, hopefully it will look like a cherry! Was wondering what to use for the 'cake case' till someone mentioned silicone cake cases in Poundland... I thought about using one of those protective things they put on take away coffees... a sleeve of some sort, and covering it with pretty paper. I'll have to have a play...

I used paper cups to create my template for muffin cases. I simply cut them down to the required height, opened them up and drew the shape onto the cardstock I was using.

The fluffy socks that are sold in Primark - two pairs for £1.50 need a larger case, so I used the top part of the cup that I'd cut down as a template.

I'm off to try and find some reasonably priced promarkers now as I've decided that I really need a set to go with my rubber stamps.

The only thing i can seem to summon the energy or motivation to do right now is to cut up all my old christmas cards to make some tags for next year, but least its something i guess.
