    Sorry to snip your post
    The Mario cake is fab!!:T
Hama beads are not for kids! i went through a stage of 'playing' with hama beads
and made a giant sonic & tails, & mario kart magnets for the fridge

just looked through my photos but can only find sonic :( i must remember to take photos of EVERYTHING i make:)

    xx

Thanks everyone for your nice comments about the cake, it was the first time I'd ever used roll-out icing so I was a bit wary of doing it! The Mario and Yoshi at the front are plastic figures but everything else is modelled from icing.

Wanna-save-more, thanks for sharing Your Sonic, it's amazing! You must have the patience of a Saint to complete something like that. I've done a few little Hama pieces which I intend to stick magnets to at some point but I want to do some large stuff to stick on the wall. I'd love to do a large Tails as he's my favourite game character but I can only find patterns of small ones online and there's no way I'd be able to create one myself. Also it would annoy OH, there's a bit of a clash in our house as he's a Nintendo fanboy and I grew up with the megadrive and Master System so I love Sonic :D

  • Claire Bear I used PerlerPal (just type it into google ) to get my grids. You just browse for a picture press submit it then plots the picture on the grid, shows you grid size/pegboards ,how many beads you need of each colour either in Hama colours or Perler
You may have to resize the picture you are using first (i used microsoft picture manager) before you upload it to PerlerPal
I have also used a program called GIMP,again just google it

I already have GIMP installed on my computer but I have no idea how to use it! PerlerPal sounds a bit easier for my technophobe's brain to handle, I'll check it out. Thanks!

ETA: I created an Evernote account, so far so good :) I can see why it's going to be brilliant at keeping everything in one place instead of having fifty Favourites folders, word documents, stuff saved into my Photos file, notepad documents with website links.....

    wanna save more

I use to love hama beads and had no idea you could make such big creations with them as well.

My son is also Mario mad so he absolutely loved the birthday cake and you have got me thinking now about getting him (ahem me!) some hama beads for his birthday as i think there could be some good gifts made from them.

Oh i love reliving childhood things. I'm also like you and decided that I was going to take up French knitting again and make a few things but I never quite got round to it. Might make a start though as i think once bump arrives i will have quite a few sleepless nights to fill although i do still want to do some more cross stitch gifts as well.
    Time to find me again

Deejane/Giggles - how did you attach the wires?

deejane - how did you get your bouquet to work. I could not get the wire to hold the rose head up - it drooped too much and fell off. :(

I got thick wire from the florist and that seemed to work as the first time i did it, they drooped, but I had never thought about using bbq sticks as giggles was saying, might try that one when I get home (at my folks at the mo, for the holidays).

Thats a fantastic cake claire bear, both my boys are mario addicts. I might have to try and attempt a mario cake for one of their birthdays!

Thanks :) If I can do it, anyone can! If you search for Mario cake on Google there's loads of pictures, that's where I got all the inspiration for mine from.

Sorry to hear people were giving you a hard time in the other thread Sams, I don't think people realise that it's an actual person with real feelings on the other side of the computer and think they can just dish out harsh words without thinking about the effects.

I'm 100 pages into the Crafty for Christmas 2008 thread as I knew there was loads of good stuff in there that I didn't write down the first time I read it. My brain is overloading :o
