Crafting for Christmas 2010, lets begin again......

My crafting has been terrible recently. I've only knitted a few rows on OH scarf. Feel really annoyed at myself, but my ex has really upset me and just not been motivated.
Dizzytina - I love the bag! It looks great. I'd like one myself and I'd happily have a bash at whizzing those up on a machine, if I had one.
I'm going to make a list of pressies for people I think and post it here, so then I'll feel like I have to be disciplined and get on!0 -
Afternoon all,
Two years ago I gathered a selection of family photos (from birthdays, various family events etc) and bought some cheap blank calendars from ebay. It was a simple craft job - I just organised the photos to coincide with each month (family members birthdays, Christmas pics, Summer hols etc) and glued them on to the appropriate page of the calendar. Everyone loved them!
Last year I was busy (post-grad study) so didn't have time to make them and I got complaints from everyone.
I'll have to start collecting photos for next years calendars....
These calendars are similar to the ones I bought, however the 2011 ones don't seem to be out yet:

Like the calendar idea :T
Had another go at a button bracelet today..........bought some buttons a bit bright colour from charity shop and sewed them on to a tape then sort of blended in..........stuck velcro on for the fastening..........quite pleased with it then just now I picked it up and the velcro came undone.......... Back to the drawing board -again !!
Printer doesn't seem to want to play -got new ink today (not refills -proper stuff) and I keep getting a message saying 'ink incompatible'.............so me and the printer have fallen out ! I've swtiched it off and unplugged it hoping it'll forget what its said (I do often enough..............lol) Failing that............out the kitchen window ? Large hammer ? And a trip to the photocopy shop to photocopy all my stuff for my scrapbooks.............? I may be some time.................lolI would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Rufusdog,
Your quilts are awesome!
Are they difficult to make? How would I go about making one?"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -

I kept meaning to do something like this for family members as quite a few of them ask for calenders at Christmas so might need to get a move on and do this this year - plus I imagine it could be quite cost effective.
Think I'd need to order 5 though but it could go as a main present to one as they only get a small token gift, and then a little something extra in the other 4.
Plus bargain too as boyfriend has studied a photography course so he knows lots of fancy tricks to do on photoshop so he could change some up a bit for me. Then just printing them off.
Really need to get my backside in gear with making and gift ideas this year! Only got 12 weeks until bump arrives and I dare say the summer holidays will be a craft free zone with a newborn and a 5 year old running around!
Also I'm thinking of doing some 'survival kits' this year too. Im thinking
* a grandchildren survival kit for my dad - he has his 4th grandchild on the way so
thinking he needs help surviving and recovering!
* my step sister a university survival kit as she will be probably living away when
she decided which one she wants to go to. any ideas what I can put into it?
Other than that I'm hoping to get some practice in of making tablet / truffles so Ben can give them to his 4 teachers - found some nice boxes to make that I think will be nice for them to go in but I will obviously need to practice a bit first.
2 cousins will probably get a sweetie tool box each and a few pennies to spend as they like - plus nice and cheap to make and light to post! plus something a bit different from a selection box!
1 niece - will have to have a store brought present as she now lives with her father and home-made stuff doesn't cut it with them apparently so will be looking at deals on line for something for her.
Other niece - will see what she's into nearer the time!
Sister - no idea as she's apparently joining the army soon so not sure if she's even going to be home!
then there's just my grandparents to get for - so pyjamas, hot chocolate each and some home-made biscuits I expect.
my step mum who loves smellies in any way shape or form
my step brother - oh my god no idea!
and boyfriend can do his family this year being that I'll be looking at stuff for the two kids!Time to find me again0 -

I know its telly soaps that she likes but you could put photos of her favourite corrie characters etc onto proper bars of soap for one of the items. Maybe also make a 2011 calendar for her with images uploaded to one of those make them yourself calendars? (just thinking off the top of my head and know these are more gifts rather than survival kit stuff so sorry if these sounds cr*p!)

Hi all, my first post on here, although i have been a lurker for quite some time now!! i have read most posts and got loads of ideas from you all and other places as well!! i have made a few things around the house but not given anything home made yet. my first full sewing machine project was to make a large throw out of loads of old jeans. i am pleased with its shabby chic look! i have also painted and drawn some pictures for my daughters room and some pics of my daughter, i drew a pic of her, then cut out the paper to make the lines/shading.
i cant remember who but some one mentioned doing a shabby chic look with frames, which i have already done myself! i started with a print i bought that said LOVE in calligraphy and thats the centre, and the idea is it grows with more pictures and frames over time.
how do i post pictures?
i have lots of ideas for xmas, so thank you all very much already!!

Hi. You cant post links until you have 10 posts. Once you do, save your photos into photobucket or tinypic. Hit the image box (the one on the bottom row at the top of the message box (4 from the right if in advanced messages) or 2nd from right if in quick reply mode) then paste the direct link in there. If using photobucket its best to reduce the size to medium before pasting into image box or they will come out huge.:smileyhea0 -
sammy kaye - for your step sister you could put in a tin of beans, staple student food! 20p as an emergency phone call. paracetamol for the hangovers. luggagge tag (with her address, so when she gets drunk she can remember where she lives!)
HTH
