Anyone not going to buy anything in the sales and avoid them

I've bought a few things online -some bits in the Next VIP sale, a lot of which will go back, two different handbags, one smart for work, one casual for holidays and days out, some new cutlery as I was sick of not having more than 3 place settings that match (LOL we had 8 for Christmas dinner and had five different sets of cutlery on the table) and a coat for DH. That's the lot now unless I find a pair of flat, black long leather boots in my size for under £35. I made a list before Christmas of what I needed and have stuck to it. We go on holiday in a fortnight, so saving my Christmas money for spends.0

My OH says, "It's not a bargain unless you need it."
- I just bought lots of clothes for my daughter for next year from Next. Saved ourselves a small fortune :-)0 -
Absolutely ! Already the sales are a lot more rubbish than last year. Although I am on here every day checkingSugarcandylash wrote: »Anyone notice how most of the things in the sales at various retailers are pretty rubbish this year?! Well that's due to the recession- many retailers bought in smaller numbers than normal in order to avoid making losses at sale times and therefore, we end up with mediocre items at bargain bin prices. There are of course bargains to be had (some wonderful laura mercier brush sets half price at harrods!) but if I don't need them I won't buy them. Also, I bought a huuuuuge stash of perfumes in the asos sale before christmas which are all gifts for people so I find that by using codes/ watching out for special offers you can pretty much get what you want for a lower price anyway! Having said that, I do love buying gift wrap and cards for next year probably because they are most practical.

The only shop i wanted to sale shopo in was lush. What i wanted from there has now gone. I will keep checking back.
I will buy in the sales only wrapping paper, i no longer bother with cards as i have a few but either forget to write them or if i do forget to post them.
With regards presents i also cut back, money does not grow on trees sadly and people are happy with the thought .
I sound like a right scrooge, i have just become alot more practical.
MSE provides some great bargains and glitches all year round.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO SALE SHOP. A BARGAIN IS ONLY A BARGAIN IF YOU NEED IT.
That said, don't forget to treat yourself every now and again, even if it's only something little that makes us smile.0 -
i was really not very impressed with the sales at all. Got £18 worth of reduced stuff at La Senza (5 pairs of pants, a bra and pyjama bottoms!) As I buy from there all year round anyway it really was a bargain. But it only really worked in there as I like all their stock......I didn't think anywhere else was very good.
I was impressed with New Look shoes, however there was a pair of KILLER spike heels with huge platform fronts that I really wanted for £10, they were ridiculous, I am taking Victoria Beckham shoes here, I lingered for ages, and then decided I would go away and come back if I wanted them - then I decided to try them on so GLAD, I could not even stand up!!!! Forget it!!! If I hadn't tried them on I would still be lusting after them.
So yeah, a bargain is a bargain only if you need it and sales are designed to make us all buy in a panic. I was not impressed with Next etc - I suppose if you shop in those places in the first place it will be a bargain but if you are like me and shop in Primark only, and New Look as a TREAT, they really don't seem to be bargains!Debt Free Wannabe by 1 January 2016

Not me! I never pay full price for anything so the sales are on for me all year!!
Having said that.. the other week I saw a dress in John Lewis i may pop in next week and if it is still there and reduced I may get it!!0 -
I'm avoiding the sales, hate the busyness in the shops and people are sooo rude and bump in to you just about knock you over and don't care
And the fact that I've got no money left as had to buy all the xmas presents and it looks like santa forgot to sent the Cheque to cover them again :rotfl:Refuse to spend money I don't have on things that I don't really need :rolleyes:0 -
I had already decided to have a look in the sales as need clothes for a new job I start in the New Year. I got a few items from White Stuff as also had a 15% off voucher as well as sale price.
I also got some clothes in another shop.....however one item wasn't reduced but I needed a crisp white shirt so I got it. It fits really well and is lovely. yes I could have trawled other shops looking for the elusive shirt in the sales but I really don't see the point. I needed it, it fits and I can afford it. I won't ever buy in the sales just because it is a 'bargain', only because I genuingly need it.0 -
I've made a shopping list for gifts for people ready for 2010, and will only buy things on that list. No more buying lots of 'bargains' I don't need (I hope!) :T0

Went to sales yesterday with a friend; they sucked bad. The stuff I wanted was still expensive after discount, and it was packed as well.
Anyone know when the ''real'' sales start (>70% off as opposed to the 30 - 50% now?).. I'm planning to go again but I'll give it a few more days.. 30th Dec / 31st?September £5 a Day Challenge
