There's nothing I really need right now, so I'll probably not bother.

I'll be doing a small amount online; only for a few things I already wanted and have been "stalking", eg a coat from Topshop, a jumper from another shop. I'm not going to be looking around at random tat for the sake of getting a perceived bargain.

I'm the same. I made a folder in 'my favourites' a little while ago with the items I quite liked and would consider buying if they went on sale. As most of the sales have already started now I've been through my folder, bought what I wanted and now I have new skirts for work when I go back next year, a new winter coat and some new underwear.

I also bought one of these

from Graham and Green. It was £45, now £22.50 in the sale. Its a bowl in the shape of a maple leaf. Its 30x31cm so its quite big and the quality is outstanding.

That was my one 'treat' in the sale. Everything else was practical.
  • Endless sales is partly what got me into this mess lol, so nope, won't be going shopping for a long time again. I've set myself a challenge to buy as little as possible this coming year including emptying the fridge, freezer, storecupboards and the masses of toiletries in my bathroom cupboard!

    Cheers

I've looked at the sales but haven't seen anything I really want or need so far.

  • i am disappointed so far with them, the next vip was a disaster, there is little in the boots sale that i would get and the new look one is pants too. so at the moment i don't think i will be getting anything in the sales

I am also not buying more clothes until I've lost another stone and a half, have lost 2 stone already, no point buying it now when it won't fit in a couple of months lol. May have to buy a new coat next winter, but will wait till next year's sales or go shopping in NYC for thanksgiving sales end of next year if the budgeting and debt payments go according to plan. It's nice to have something to look forward to and also something to keep me motivated!

    Cheers

  • i keep thinking 'if you dont need anything, dont buy anything' but on the other hand i love a bargain, i'am definately a careful buyer, i wouldnt just throw my money at anything cause its cheap, so far i have just bought perfume, my fave one as its the best time to buy it at half price lol

I buy things I need, when I can afford them. I don't buy stuff that the shops need to get rid of, or have price established in a couple of branches to roll out "half price" deals for the sale.

I've worked in retail for about 8 years and back then, the sale was a genuine drive to clear out old stock. Now it's just a shift in perceived value to drive more sales. I suppose there will be some outlets that actually have a "sale", maybe clothing shops and a couple of others.

I live not too far from Cheshire Oaks; so I can get "sale" bargains all year round. I really do agree with your post. It's about perception (and deception!)
