McDonag, where are you this weekend. Do you only R&R during the week?

More often than not I have to mention the bit on the sign they are usually for the higher priced items. CD's, meat and GBA games have been a full refund without problems.

I picked up a silverside joint today which was priced at £6.....? /kg on the pack. The SEL was £5....?/kg and all of the other packs were priced at the lower price and had a special offer sticker on them. The CS lady didn't know what to do but we went to look at the labels and one of the other CS staff said 'thats a refund due'. Anyway, she was still unsure and called the manager. He looked as well and very carefully compared the label descriptions before agreeing that it was a differently priced stock delivery and said I should be refunded the difference in price. Up until then he was OK, albeit having tried to find a reason to wriggle out of it, but when I mentioned money back (in a low key non confrontational manner) he got agitated. He then examined all the packs even more cvarefully and then found an SEL further up the display which was at £6..../kg. He looked at the bar codes and insisted that they were different products - even though the labels on the higher and lower joints read exactly the same ie silverside with added basting fat. He said the bar codes were different so they were OK to price them differently, that it didn't matter what the SELS said and that no way was I having any money back at all.

To be fair, my joint was the only one priced at the higher level but it was in the same display with all the lower ones and I didn't thinl it was fair to have 2 different SELS for what appeared to the customer to be the same product. The bar codes are so small i can' read them easily and I don't see why I should have to - I thought bar codes were for the staff not the customers.

Is he right or should i moan at Head Office ? By initially offering me the difference he was admitting that I'd been overcharged so surely he should have gone along with their refund policy.

just walk away, please.................yes, in theory it's an R+R, BUT, maybe someone put that joint there? on purpose?

BUT, do you really want to kick up a stink over such a small amount when there's potentially bigger fish (R+R) around the corner

trust me, don't make yourself known over such a small amount, you'll be grateful you didn't in the future!

Thanks Bleugh - I'd already decided I wasn't going to make a fuss about this (you're right, I'm not going to do anything to draw attention to myself!).

But I wanted to know if the guy was right or not in case it happens again. It wasn't the case that somebody else had put the joint in the wrong place - it was identical except for the price. The other label was just a bit firther along the display but that chiller shelf was full of the lower priced joints, the one I picked up was the only wrongly priced one amongst the others.

It just didn't make sense to me that the manager insisted the packs were different when the only difference was the price. Surely customers aren't expected to check the bar codes ?

Ps I've just had the best flavoured most tender lamb for my dinner I've ever had ! Tescos organic lamb really does win hands down - and it was all the better as it came from the same shop I was moaning about!

    HIYA FOLKS,

JUST A WORD OF WARNING, THE PACKS OF MINI NAN BREAD THAT ARE CURRENTLY BOGOF DATED 2ND AUGUST ALL SEEM TO BE OFF.

By this i mean if you look at the packs carefully they are full of condensation which means that with this heat mould will develop rapidly and well before the sell / use by date. I shudder to think how many folks are getting dodgy tummies with these already.

I informed not just one but 3 members of staff about this in one tesco today (Riverside Dundee) showing them the problem and nothing was done about not just one but two shelves full of the product an hour later after i had told staff and finished my shopping. I even mentioned it at customer service and she said it's funny you should mention it as i had someone return a mouldy packet yesterday.

Same in Kingway Extra, Dundee, same problem with condensation in the packs so it looks like a possible nationwide problem, possibly just related to the date aforementioned. Informed a member of staff there but again nowt was done and informed a few folks who had them in their trolley.

If buying these please check them carefully avoiding the aforementioned dated ones at all costs.

You said in your post in June, the following:

Do you mean 'I guess that's what keeps us PI guys in a job' ?

Just thinking that you are an LPI (Loss Prevention Investigator/Store Detective)

    No matter cos I am.

I went to Ipswich, Diss and Bury St. Edmunds today. Not many R&R's, but enough to pay for my petrol.

    Kings Lynn tomorrow.

I am a store detective for M&S and travel all over the uk, spending a couple of days in each shop and going to tescos when off duty.

In your opinions, do you think that there is a 'best time' to R&R. ie, when are the shift changes, when are the new prices put on the shelves etc.

Wow, mcdonag, a store detective doing regular R&Rs, that makes me lol!!

What would you do if a Tesco Security Chap started to follow you around due to your R&Ring? This happens to some posters here.

And you have any tips for us 'average' shoppers who only do small amount R&Rs, I seem to recall you got a large amount recently? How do you avoid problems, arguments at the CS desk?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
