How do I get rid of the smell of urine from a carpet?

I hope someone can help.
Aged relly spilt entire contents of bottle on the bedroom carpet. It was mopped soaped and scrubbed by her home help, but the aroma remains. Am I going to have to persuade her to get rid of the carpet?
thanks for any suggestions.0 -
Not an expert but what about covering the area with a generous amount bicarbonate of soda leaving it down overnight and hovering it up the next day? Got to be worth a try.0

Hi there, after soaking up the spill use biological washing powder to clean the carpet (something in it eats the smell causing enzymes), first maybe check for colour fastness in a place that does'nt show.

thanks for the suggestions.
Colour fastness not a problem, tact (not my strong point) about the smell will be......

We had a similar problem when we moved into our latest (rented) house. I don't want to know what had gone off in the bedroom but the carpet absolutely stank of urine and there was staining in all of the corners. We tried everything but what finally got rid of the smell was hiring a carpet cleaner and going over the room REALLY well. We used a rug doctor and they sell an 'odour remover' to use alongside their detergent, I think it was about £3 for a spray bottle so we used that too and it made such a difference. It's probably not the cheapest or most convenient option but tbh I was so revolted by the smell paying a bit of money was the least of my worries lol.0

Dampening the patch then covering with bicarbonate might help.
There's an older thread here - how to get rid of urine smell on carpet.
Alternatively, do a thread title search; there are lots of other threads with "urine" in the title.

If all else fails - pop along to the vets - they sell an odour neutraliser there that will even kill off cat wee - although it can take several treatments before it has all gone.
Had very little trouble with bed wetting from my kids, and had plastic covers on mattresses until I knew they were safe - but on one occasion the cover had become damaged and the matress got wet - I washed gently with biological washing powder, and then used Febreeze once dry - there was no smell - so one of the other of them worked, lol!
Good luck with it"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
My little boys room smells of wee:mad: and i did try and scrub the carpet which has made the smell worse. So peeps what is the bets way to sort this smell out?
Many thanksDebt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -
you really need to know what caused the smell and where it is....
if your son has used the carpet as a toilet then you either need to get a proper carpet cleaner or change the carpet0
