MM, sorry to be such an ignoramus but what is this hydro stuff Dylan does? Is it like water physio? How come he needs it?
Feel free to tell me to !!!!!! off, just interested
edit - ooh blugger is in the filter :rotfl:
When Dylan was born, the valve that connects your heart to your lungs didnt open properly Its called persistant fetal circulation, so this little valve didnt realise he was now born and needed blood to be pumped. Because of this, he didnt get enough oxygen for a few days and was in an incubator on 100% O2 for a bit.
He developed muscle tone problems from this and we get physio and hydrotherapy to help his muscles loosen up as there is a chance he may develop or be diagnosed with something similar to cerable palsy but we will not know till he is nearly 2 as they will not give a diagnosis before then

He is opening his left hand pretty much all the time now - no prompting needed, and his right hand if you go to pass him something, but the rest of the time still in a fist, but not as tight, so its getting there too
His shoulder is more that he straightens his right arm and stiffens it to the point that you cannot move it without force when he is excited or tired or upset. When he is relaxed, he has full free movement of the arms, but he does this alot !! But she said the muscle def wasnt as tight today when he was getting jumpy in the water, so the massage seems to be working on it !!
He's getting there then! They really do learn quickly when they are still young. Weird how muscle tone is tied to emotional response isn't it? Chris's leg goes when he is excited, it;'s as if his brain forgets about it when there is something more important going on.
I got to go do my bloody dishes, thought I'd done them, but in actual fact Dh brought through teh spare duvet when we were watching Tv and I fell asleep and dreamt I'd done them. :cool:0 -

Albeit chained to the kitchen sink.. within arms reach of the washing machine and iron...

How did you know? Had to borrow Lucy's furry cuffs for the job :cool:MOTM, something I wanted to ask you, but it has never came up, so I'll just go ahead anyway... With your girls, how does it work with the buying of sanitary towels and stuff? Do they go shopping and put them in the basket or buy them out their own pocket money or do you go buying them? No real reason for asking other than pure noseyness so feel free to pretend you missed the question.
Well, I provide the finances for things such as sanitary towels and the like as the ones who need it are at school, or in 16yo's case, working part time. For me, it's as important as the food I provide, so i'm prepared to pay it. Those who aren't at that stage yet, get other similarly valued things. I try to make sure they get similar amounts of things, to stop any fears of favourtism.
Generally, they are purchased when we all go shopping together, although if one of them is running short, i'll pop in and get some from the supermarket or local chemist. All they have to do is tell me what they need and i'll do my best to get it. I know most of the brands now, but sometimes I get stumped, so I just ask the chemist if I get stuck.
It's like that with condoms as well. I insist that my 16yo and 15yo carry them, although 15yo would not be allowed to carry it in school. I don't encourage them to have sex and would prefer they didn't, but i'd prefer them to be prepared if something happened, because things do.
I have Lucy to help me now. I only learn as I go along, being male. Lucy has been there as a young girl and she is a godsend as she can talk knowledgeably about it with them and I think they are finding her a great help. They still talk to me about things, I just have some help with it all now.0 -
