I really thought my HV would come back and see me  I just rang and they said they don't usually see you again after the first time unless you say you're having problems... Why didn't they tell me that then? Or at least tell me when/where to go and get her weighed. :(

    <-- Feels abandoned :o

Anyway i just found out that weigh clinic is today (finishes at 12) or Friday pm so will have to go then. I thought i'd have been a good candidate for being seen again since i'm totally alone and considering i was given ad's during pregnancy.
Also rang to let them know i still have the gas and air from my HB 5 weeks ago rolleyes-1.gifrolleyes-1.gif

Back from the group. Shan't be going again. It was nice and all, but I'm terribly judgemental and it was in too deprived an area. Too many dummies, bottles of juice, screaming, dirty and fake designer clothes, mums sneaking off for a fag etc. O felt a bit odd with my cuddly, shy babygrowed baby in a sling! Sorry if that all sounds terrible, I just felt very posh and out of place, despite being not very posh at all.

Sorry I did ask earlier, but maybe not very clearly as I was rushing off for the school run....what is the documentary that was referred to as finding out there was a problem with Tigs baby?
    weezl74 wrote: »
basically (but tigs will explain this loads better) she was having fortnightly scans and all was well at the 29? week one, so next would have been 31. The documentary makers bumbled filming that scan somehow (detail escapes me) and so an extra one was done in between the 2 scheduled ones. At that scan it was revealed that Andrew wasn't getting all he needed from the placenta (something had started to go the wrong way?) and he needed out PDQ. Apparently without that extra scan they don't know if he would have been ok.

I'm sorry tigs if I've done a bodge of telling that!

    Nope, you did pretty well!

Mel, I'm involved in a documentary for BBC3 called "Seven Ages of Pregnancy" as I'm a "mature" first-time Mum (being screened this summer). They've filmed me n Marley at the house, stuff like that. I was already on fortnightly u/s & doppler scans due to a problem with placental bloodflow. The crew were due to film the scan at 27wks, but had to rush away to film someone else's labour, so an extra un-scheduled scan was organised one week later. At that scan, we were being filmed as the Docs told us the placental bloodflow had in fact failed and, if not for that extra scan, Andrew would have died in-utero. I had two days of steroid injections, which improved things for a week; then the bloodflow stopped again and Andrew had to come out by emergency c/section.

They filmed Andrew at 3/4 days old in NICU, and our reactions to the situation. And they've since been back and filmed our triumphant home-coming, 11 weeks later. Apparently we're the "tear jerker" story of the documentary, and the BBC insisted they come back and film the happy ending :)

Oh, and the even spookier thing. My placental bloodflow problems weren't picked up at the 12wk & 20wk scans. They were only noticed because I volunteered for research (due to my age) which involved an extra u/s & doppler scan at 21wks. Otherwise we wouldn't have had a clue about any problem, and we'd have definitely lost Andrew.

That's quite common over here - if people perceive you as struggling to manage something and a baby they'll come and grab your baby. If she's used to that and she's met you before she probably would be mortified that it upset you. I'm not defending it cause I hate it - but she's not just some nutter, IYSWIM? Well, she probably isn't.
    ...snip...
I'm always impressed at the resilience of some of the little babies on this thread. I'm considering getting some counselling because I'm still finding it hard to deal with Molly's birth and the effects it seems to have had on me; some of you mummies had it so much harder and you're doing so well. I'm all :j and :o.
    ah reassuring thanks hun xx

I know it's been covered now but do seek help, it does matter where your birth comes on the perceived scale of badness. What does matter is how it affected YOU :kisses3:

i thought i was going to fall of the operating table. it seemed so narrow!!
i was more scared about falling off the table lol!!

now i just wonder if the same thing could happen again (K's head didnt turn properly and forceps, ventouse didnt work)... if i was to get pg...can i ask for a CS staright away?
I know i've said it before but I'm so angry with SIL for you, I don't know how you managed to get through the early days with everything that happened, I was a weck after having Chris and didn't have anything other than a straight forward bith and a crying baby - I'm a wuss:p

yes you can request an elective and would most likely have your request accepted but you would be (IMO) be better finding out why he got stuck, was he in the 'wrong' position before enterng the pelvis or is your pelvis a funny shape or was he not given enough time or was it because you were in a less than ideal birthing position or any other reason
once you know the why then you can know how likely it is to happen with a 2nd baby and decide if you'd like to go for VB or CS :)

Angela - I think the collective 'we' forget that Rose was early and by so much because she is so amazingly strong, she recovered so well in many ways she is/was just like a 'normal' baby :AI hope that makes sense and comes accross as it is meant to, you and rose (and your OH and older ones) are fabby :)

Weezlie - I have been pondering starting a Parenting daily chat thread, can I have yours (and anyone else's) thoughts?
    My thinking is;
there are daily threads in other areas such as DFW and OS so we 'should' be ok having one on families (I asked MM about it and she worried we'd get moved to the arms)
if the thread is daily it would removed the perceived need to catch up on 3 days posts when you've been away
removing the need to catch up would hopefully mean 'we' are less distracted and therefore less likely to forget people??

well that took so long I bet all of this mamoth post is pointless now :p

I like that idea sami. Also, can we have a 'rule' mentioned in the opening post, that if you have a question or something important you need replies to, can you bold it?

One thing I find, is I don't like to comment when I don't remember all the details. Perhaps it'd be helpful if people occasionally post a summary? Like for example newbies might not know that I have anxiety, and that is why I struggle to go out. If I post that i'm having a hard day, I could put in brackets (because I have an anxiety disorder) or something?

Sami how would that work? If people don't have to catch up then wouldn't more stuff be missed?
Do you mean getting rid of this one and having daily chat instead? Maybe the daily chat OP could have a run down of each days milestones/events so then everything would be acknowleged :rotfl:

    /pondering.

oh Beenie I forgot to tell you the other day  :o weighing clinic should be written on one of the first few pages of your red book
I've not abandoned you (and I'm sorry I forgot about you :o) :kisses3:
