Just been sorting Rhys' tea.. He's having roast chicken dinner that I froze the other week in those AK freezer pots. Is one of those supposed to be one portion?! I put it in the same pot as Rhys has his porridge from, and he had three times that amount in porridge earlier! No wonder he's barely wanted any milk today.. :o

SS- Weezl has a Fergie not a Benjamin....I think you need some of this virtual apricot and almond tart. Photobox has clearly addled your brain!

    I knew that :o

Sorry Weezlie - bad day where I am. And Molly's been a massive whingebag all day - think it's teeth, she's been pulling her face and crying off and on, won't settle, has dribbled three bibs to saturation and bitten down on both nipples and I'm so sore I've no idea how I'm going to feed her next time.

Poor kid! If you have any expressed milk around, you could give it to her for her next feed in a bottle with a chilled teat, which she might find soothing for the toothache? And you could use the extra time between feeds to recover. Didn't you use a german homespun remedy for this kind of thing when pregnant, which worked well?
  • Big hugs SS, I feel for your sore nipples :(. I hope Molly has a lovely sleep tonight and is cheerier tomorrow.

I miss my OH :o. I've barely seen him today as he did a night last night, slept all morning then has been at work all afternoon. I'm so glad I have him home all day tomorrow, although he's working tomorrow night again. Sometimes shifts suck :p.

Thanks Nicki, I gave my tube of herbal nipple cream to a friend who had greater need than I did at the time :o

We have a freezer full of EBM, which she turns her nose up at since the month when Husband was in hospital - she seems to associate it with Mama not being at home and won't touch a bottle. I'm sure the EBM will come in useful for cereals and such, but for the moment she's chewing on a flannel I've had in the freezer and the savage beast is temporarily quiet.

I don't know anything about reflux, but weaning-wise we're doing a combination of BLW and mush and just separating out a small amount of whatever's cooking for Molly before the salt goes in, then it either gets mashed or turned into baby-friendly chunks perfectly sized for her to mash in her hands and wipe in her hair.

I've been rubbish at keeping up with this thread. I know I dipped my toe in when Edward was about 4 weeks old, but he's kept me rushed off my feet and I couldn't hope to keep up with it, and now I've looked round and he's 4 months old already

He is a very sicky baby, who cries a lot, and we, and the doctors, think that this is caused by reflux. Do any of you have kids with this problem, and if so do you have any tips for soothing them when they are upset? I saw that aless had posted the Happiest Baby on the Block routine a few days ago, but that one doesn't work for us, nor does swaddling, dummies or any of the old stalwarts. The worst time is when we need to go out in the car. I suspect its the angle of the car seat which does it, but he cries inconsolably during all car trips be they 5 mins or 2 hours in length, and we don't know what to do to help him.

The other thing I have started to wonder about, although I have a couple of months before I want to start, is weaning onto solid food. I've seen several references to baby led weaning, which sounds like a good way to go, but how do people cope with things like salt? I like to cook, and most of my homemade meals, homemade breads etc do contain salt, and would taste horrid to the rest of the family if I just left it out. Do people use salt substitutes, and are these safe for babies, or do they just cook without salt and get the rest of the family to add it at the table, which is not so nice? All tips and links would be gratefully received.

    Hi Nicki,

The time goes so quick, doesn't it :)

Have your doctors prescribed anything for the reflux? Liam suffers too. At first it was just the constant vomiting (usually projectile and feeding required a towel to catch it) I think MM's doctors described this a silent reflux and there doesn't seem to be any associated pain. We were initially treating the reflux by using a thickening formula (sorry don't know if you FF or BF) but Liams reflux symptoms seemed to have increased in the weeks over christmas and we are now on infant gaviscon.

It’s recommended to try and keep reflux babies sat up for about 20mins after each feed, to stop the acid rising back up. Raising the head end of the cot/moses basket can also help. On bad days, Liam settles better sleeping on his side
I know there is more advise, but I can think of it just yet. I am sure someone else will be along soon to help.

    SS – ouch!

Doh! It's obvious really when someone points it out! I had visions of him being served from the same dish as everyone else, but a separate salt-free version is do-able without too much fuss for most things I guess.

If Molly won't take a bottle, I'd nab her cold flannel for your nips if I were you. Or if you're feeling forgiving put another one in for yourself. :D. Or you could use the quark again. I didn't want to mention that first time round as we fell out over it on the pregnancy thread and I didn't want you to think I was making a dig (apologies for the bad feeling then, it was a bad time for me and you were caught in the cross fire) but I remember you said it was very effective and worked very quickly.

Hugs SS for both of you!!

Elle - I have no idea of portion size......Best just to see if he eats one cube and is still hungry, if so give him 2 the next feed?? Maybe!

Oooh I forgot to share.....Kai managed to use his spoon today at dinner time:D He only managed to load it himself once though but everytime I put food on it he successfully ate it without it dropping off:) It made for a tidier dinnertime!! As soon as he manages to use it properly I will be able to give him a bit more variety, things with rice, or stuff cooked in the slowcooker.....
