I keep wondering when i should be expecting a period, is it true that bf'ing delays it?

I stopped bleeding completely when she was 2 weeks old, and it was v.light throughout - not how i remembered it being after DS
Gisi - I gave mine to my friend who is due any day. Felt a bit odd, but no reason to be shy I suppose!

Periods - most recommend using pads for the first period, I assume I'm exempt from that as it has been 9 months since I gave birth? if/when I get a period, can I use tampons?

My first period started just before New Year, and Izzy's first birthday was on the 14th January, so Beanie you might still have a while to go!

Everyone had said the first one was a killer, but mine wasn't too bad - I normally get quite bad period pains, and I got some, but not as bad as normal (from what I remember!)... or maybe having a baby has made me a bit less of a big softie? It was quite heavy, but didn't last any longer than normal.

You might want to keep hold of at least some pads for now though - I found that my "geography" has changed so much I couldn't put a tampon in . I will have another try next time, as I hate pads, but I got myself so upset and worried over it that I gave up trying :(.

The worst thing though, was that now periods are back so is the PMT. When I was on the pill it solved the problem, but I can't go back on the one I was taking while BF. Not that I need to be taking it anyway, so might as well wait, rather than trying different mini-pills to see which one agrees with me (last time i switched pills it took about 3 attempts to find the right one, so I'd rather wait and stick with what I know I think).

Bruno you can come back out from behind the cushions now! :o

  • I do :D 22 September 2002 :D

I increased the policy in July 2006 to include my new hubby, so now I also pay a small monthly contribution.

I am not sure if I increased it again when I had Benjamin to include him. I am pretty sure I didn't but I couldn't say for sure :o I dunno if work would do it automatically for me?

I am so shoite with my finances! Weezlie and SM would have a fit!!!

Doesn't answer the question then... never mind, it was worth a try! Have you tried getting an answer out of HMRC? It's a bit like getting blood out of a stone sometimes, but you never know, you could be lucky.

    Afternoon all

Well Charly is now 13lb12 at 18 weeks - not had her weighed for 6 weeks and only gonna go every month from now on.

Sleep didn't go well last night, she woke almost every half hour until 12.30 when I gave up and brought her in with me. At 18 weeks, she isn't too young to do the pick up/put down thing is she? Leave her while she whinges and only pick up if she really cries/screams, don't speak to her and put her down as soon as she stops? Any advice if this is the way to go?

    Hugs to all xxx

PS Want to try and post a pic - will see if I can sort it if she stays quiet in her swing.

Once breastfeeding is well established you can go on any pill... It's only in the early days the combination of hormones can have an effect on supply...

    Mfd, I'd eat the curry...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Have I told you lately that I love you?

Jam - the earlier you try and start getting her to sleep on her own the better IMHO.

  • Krystal I didn't know that. I had assumed the hormones had an effect on baby.

I look like a teenager at the mo - covered in spots. Bloody hormones. Added to that, I haven't brushed my hair today, or washed it since the weekend. Minging. (And the less said about the state of my legs and armpits the better...) Maybe I need that ugly picture Beanie! I have had 2 baths this week though. Luxury! I normally end up having a quick wash in the sink, as we don't have a shower, and baths take too much time. But now Izzy is going to bed with less fuss I'm taking some proper me time (well, me and mother and baby magazine anyway) for a soak :)

Some people it does and some people it doesn't. If you are breastfeeding, the earlier it comes back, the more likely you are to be having anovulatory cycles.
Okay, slightly related question....I have loads of sanitary towels leftover that I bought before I had baby to use for bleeding but didn't need. I always use tampons and so do all my friends, should I save them for possible next baby or donate them to somewhere?
Do you have any pregnant friends? Or offer them on Freecycle?

I used tampons - I couldn't find any information to say you shouldn't.

I totally agree - if a child isn't invited, then you make other arrangements which may involve not going. You don't call the couple lots of unpleasant names and send a revenge gift, and you don't take the kids on the assumption that their names were just left off the invitation.
Those people sound childish themselves - maybe the children should have been invited instead of them. Alice's name wasn't on the first invitation but that was because she hadn't been born. (But we had been told she was invited - we didn't just assume.)
Everyone had said the first one was a killer, but mine wasn't too bad - I normally get quite bad period pains, and I got some, but not as bad as normal (from what I remember!)... or maybe having a baby has made me a bit less of a big softie? I didn't know the first period was supposed to be worse than usual - mine was totally pain free which was a great relief as mine used to be so bad the pain would wake me up in the night even with the maximum allowed painkillers.
