Hi freebiequeenie - I got one for the first time this week too with A&C!
Mine is currently in the oven with cauliflower in a cheese/wine/cream/garlic mix that hopefully will turn out like cauliflower cheese with a difference...0 -
I discovered this gorgeous veg 2 years ago at my local farm shop. Rarely seen in supermarkets, apparently, but WHY???
Folks with allotments or veg gardens, try this veg. If you get a `veg-box` don`t discard it, and if you`re a supermarket veg shopper and just curious, ASK in supermarkets and it might spread....
The green leaves on a fresh young one are like spring greens, stalks are great in stir-fries, but the bulbous bit is SO gorgeous. Peeled, like a turnip, grated and drained, then simmered in a bit of butter and its own steam.
The juices that you drain off keep or freeze to add to any stock or gravies, gorgeous vegetable stock from a gorgeous vegetable!0 -
I have one in at the moment - and tried steaming the leaves and having with butter.
I'm now looking at the bulb itself and wondering what to do with it. I was told that the Germans just eat it "as is" like an apple. I expect I will grate mine up and use it in salad.0
