  • Talktalk are sure to follow BT they tend to with everything else.

I don't know... if they have any sense they will jump on it and use it as a marketing point that "At talk talk - our evenings start when yours does" (Still 6pm) Talk talk reps if you are reading this, don't steal my slogan unless you want to offer me a job in your marketing dept.

I don't think we wish to go back to nationalised BT days when it took weeks and weeks to get a phone line, when calls costs a fortune. I never understand the rosy views on what it was like to have to use a nationalised monopoly service provider.

Neither do I. Did BT actually make any money with it was government run? Governments have a bad record in running any nationalised industry and not makiing losses.

I`ve just been online and checked my bill and found out that despite being on the evening and weekend plan i`m still being charged for calls that should be free

I`ve just emailled a query and also asked about the 12 month contract and new times etc, here is a copy of what i`ve sent.

"In November i signed up for the evening and weekend package on a 12 month rolling contract, however on checking my most recent bill i find that i am still being charged for calls that should in fact be free.
Could someone please look at my bill and correct this please.
I would also like to ask about changes to the definition of weekend call times ie from April 7pm to 7am, this will affect how i use my phone and would like to know if this will allow me to opt out of the 12 month rolling contract without penalty and go back to the free weekend call package."

I can`t wait for the reply.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

billsavings, I've just checked my "unbilled" usage, and there are already 2 calls on there that would be chargeable under the new evening time definition... does that make it a material disadvantage? In my eyes, Yes, because I'm having to pay for something that before I didn't.

Well if you think your at a material disadvantage, follow the guidelines, write to BT and see their response.

I have been with TT about 6 years now and have to say they have always beaten BT when i renew every year i have never paid for my evening and weekend package they always credit me £2.95 back each month and i get free caller display. I think TT could overtake BT if they keep it at 6pm.

I am sure TT will follow BT in due course but they already have an edge because they offer free calls to millions of other TT Customers, and Inclusive 24/7 Local Geographical Calls to E&W call bundle customers.

I'm not bothered. I override BT calls and use 18185 and I'm laughing all the way to the bank.

Anyone successfully cancelled their 12 month contract to the Evenings & Weekends package because of this? I emailed BT and they have gone silent, just don't fancy explaining this all to a foreign call centre.
  • In your report a BT spokesman stated to avoid the charges best option was to change to Anytime Plan and customers doing so would receive 3mths free. This was an afterthought following public and press exposing it. This offer is obviously only those who did it after the "scam" was exposed.

I saw changes on my last bill and decided to change to Anytime Plan on 15th Jan. Following reading your article I called BT to ask why I was not offered the 3 mths free as per the quote from the BT spokesman. I was informed it only came into effect on 22nd January proving what I said this was an afterthought when they saw the press comments.

And no they have not offered me the 3mths free although I am doing what seems logical to avoid the extra costs. Thanks BT for your understanding and customer care - I will compare alternatives when my 12mths expires.
