Still don't know whether it's feasible to put a bigger disk in. How would you format a 100Gb disk to FAT32 if the player won't function without the system files on it?0

Was going to tag onto the end of thread, before noticing post ... Tesco are selling cheap camera case + strap for just under a fiver that fit the Venturer perfectly. Really well padded, and makes it a lot easier to carry it around!

Venturer do the proper case and carrying strap for £5-95 inc P&P0

I answered my own Q since you can access via USB without the system.
However, I think the system does impose a limit on the number of files you can put on.
I got to about 12000 or so and the system load froze at 71% and refused to go further. There must be some limit to the size of the .tbl file or some RAM limit somewhere.
B*gger, what does a man with more than 60Gb of MP3s do for a player now?
There's definitely a gap in the market.0 -

About 60Gb at the mo' so some future expandibility would be good.
I can upgrade my iRiver H140 from 40Gb to 60Gb for £125 or so, but their firmware only goes up to 9999 songs as well.0 -
Don't worry about storage for over 60GB of MP3s. You'll spend so much time deciding what to play and then navigating to it that you'll never actually need to play anything at all

Therefore you just need to store the first few seconds of each track
Can I help?0 -
Random play on one's entire record collection is a wonderful thing0

How do you link it up to your car stereo?0

One of those cassette adaptors (Tesco, Maplins) via the headphone socket0
