Thanks Clare for the links. They are in Argos at the moment for £14.99, and I paid £12.99 for one the other day, so although I really want it, I don't want to pay over the odds for it. I'm probably being stingy now, especially as I got the DSi as a bargain, but every year, I always end up buying something last minute off ebay for silly money. Last year I paid £50 for a Hamster thing that should have cost under £20. I wanted to buy it now, before the prices got any higher. You'll be there, hunting the latest must have toy before you know it. ;):D

Clare - good news. I found a site here. They are not as expensive as I thought either, especially going back that far!

I bought everyone - for the christmas before the Millenium, one of these newspapers each and I paid about £35, even for DD1 who at the time was only 9. I just hope your Aunt wasn't bought on a Sunday as these are £20 extra.

Edited to add: or there's this, a newspaper from every decade your aunt has lived in.

Edited again: Make a this is your life book here. Not used them before so can't guarantee what they're like.

I have a newspaper from the day I was born. It makes intersting reading as I was born on the same day (the same minute in fact) that Neil Armstrong and the crew landed back on earth. Wooooo. LOL

Thanks rufus - these are the types of things I'm going to look at anyway, but if anyone can point me in the direction of the gift sets, that would be great. My aunt has a bit of money so she might be p for buying an expensive bit!

I had a fab book about the year I was born (fun stuff that happened in that year, news, music, loads of bits and bobs) but couldn't have been expensive. I can't seem to find anything similar for 1920 though - must be too long ago!! lol

Def agree the newspapers will be sky high prices, just another thought have you got a Past Times, - just thought themed around the period of 1920s, and you might pick up some ideas - or try searching 1920s and you might find some articles on line, copied and poshed up with a border etc make the gift more personal. Def agreed with everyone re the CD.

What about having a look on ebay for a coin of the year she was born, I did it for dads 70th, my friends 50th and my GP (he was 50 and leaving to go to Australia for 3 yr work placement), I had a variety of items, cuff links (theres men - no gd under this one), keyrings, and coin in a little cardboard holder saying happy xx birthday, none of them cost me more than £5 each. Coz it was all last yr, I can't get into the feedback to get the sellers IDs, but a general search, rememebr looking at one seller, who had done the coins as a necklace, but painted them in enamel (?), and they looked brilliant, but they hadn't got the yr I needed. I've got 40 bdays coming up next yr, so I'll be on the prowl again

Another thought - I think studio cards do them, a print out of the year you were born and the events that happened, I'm sure that on ebay there be someone doing the same at a fraction of the cost and you could frame it yourself, and maybe the meaning of her surname, got the option of her maiden name or married name, whether theres a coat of arms etc.
    xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

OOH yes - the coat of arms. We have that too. Our surname is very obscure, they even managed to find the meaning of that. Another thought. How about a reversed family tree? From her parents downwards. Would be easy to do on computer and you can get a two week free trial on Ancestry.com

Clare - a few years ago there was a free certificate you could get with things that happened on the day they were born, then it had the same year, then it had the same day but different years etc. I got one for my Dad and they just sent it via email to print myself but once I saw it I thought I could have done it myself so made one up the same for my OH's Mum. It was quite easy to do, had a nice font and centred everything going down the page and printed it out in dark brown ink on some creamy parchment like paper. I framed it in a cheap frame from poundland or somewhere. I got most of the info from Wikipedia but some of it from other sites, just kept putting in dates and whatever until I could find enough to fill an A4 page.

I have just done two crayon rolls so thats the little great niece and nephew sorted, had some crayons left over from when I made them before. Will get them both a xmas colouring book from 99p shop to with them.
