    Legendmum - That really made me chuckle this morning!!!!!! :)

    Off to see my nan in her nursing home today so I shall pop into the Range (down the road from her) to get some buttons to finish my sock monkeys (took one to work, now have lots of orders!!).

    ....and a quick question...my nan is in a nursing home, has dementia. She is still mobile. Loves music, played the piano and sung professionally......any ideas for chistmas present? I am stumped. Thought maybe a photo book......?

    Thanks in advance and I hope you all have a successful 'organised christmas' day today! :):):)

    How about a CD of all the songs she used to play and sing? One you compile yourself so you know they are exactly right. I may be wrong but Im sure I saw on a documentry once how music from earlier in life strikes a cord with people with dementia. This would be lovely combined with a photo book too as she could listen to the music whilst browsing pictures.

    Hi everyone :)

    I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for a christmas eve hamper for adults? We can't have children and I don't want the fun of christmas to disappear because of that...so im trying to think of some ideas for some (semi) grown ups :D

    Have the hamper include stuff that you wouldnt usually do or have time for, so its good quality time spent together. Afterall christmas is about creating memories with whoever you have in your life, whether that is 50 relatives or just you and the OH. How about a cake mix? Have some fun amking some cakes with christmas music on... then eat them all later watching a film hahaha A board game? The loser must do the washing up from the cake cooking! A movie, with new pjs, a snuggly blanket, lovely drink, and some snacks :D

    feeling very chritmassy at the moment - Elysia and I are cuddled up under my new bargain throw on the sofa, and we're watching santa buddies dvd. I didn't even tell her she chose it herself.

    OH wasn't very happy bringing all my parcels today (he's our postie) I think I had about 8 delivered. one or two were pressies, one was my new throw, one was a bottle of fabric conditioner off toluna to trial. and the rest were craft stuff.

    mum2one - sorry to hear about your holiday and who you were going with. maybe it's fot the best that you found out now and not further down the line. big hugs to you, to make you feel better.

    I think new jammies, a snuggly blanket, a takeaway menu and some chocolates/bottle of nice wine would make me happy. Our Christmas Eve tradition is going to be adult time under the tree or as close as possible, by the light of the fairylights.

    Maybe a book of captioned photos of her family and friends and their relation to her. My aunt found it really hard to keep track. I love the idea of a CD as well, music can be really therapeutic for people with dementia.

    Hi all

    Welcome to the new members, you'll enjoy it here.

    Elysia, thanks very much for asking about me. I don't post much probably because I spend most of my time trying to catch up with the reading on here each day and also haven't felt like doing anything towards Christmas yet. Also got a computer virus so getting online after going through safe mode then restarts/updating virus shields can take forever and then when I'm actually online they keep coming up about viruses to delete, so it's hard to actually get down to posting. Hopefully ex will look at it on Sunday.

    Are you feeling any better?

    Thanks for the friendly welcome :) and for some really great ideas :j how sad is it that I wish we had friends with children so I could buy things for them :o I should be happy that im saving money :rotfl:

    Pinkflop I can't really add anything to the other suggestions as they sound really good. I think a photo book with captions is a really good idea so if she needs a bit of prompting with who is who its all there for her. Also creating your own music CD is a lovely thoughtful gift and one that will hopefully help her :)

    Mum2one Thanks for the halfcost tip :)

    Anglea - I'm fine, it comes back now and again, but I just keep taking the tablets, as they say.

    Sorry to hear about your computer! It's awful when things go wrong and they play up - it's amzing how much we rely on them. I didn't even have a pc of my own until 18months ago, I used to used DD1's. I don't know how we coped sharing!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I second or third or fourth the idea of the photo book with the names of people in the photos. I can't remember who asked but if you're a newbie, have you heard about Hotprints? You can get four (I think) photobooks per month made for free, just pay p+p. It works out about £2.50 each. There is a page of adverts in each one, or you can pay extra and have none. The page is perforated so you can easily rip it out anyway. They are good quality card, if you are looking for one as cheap as possible, or there are deals on the grabbit quite often, for ones from Photobox. These are excellent/outstanding quality and well worth the money you pay for them. Best advice is shop around.
    I hope that has helped in some little way.
    I'm off out now - be back later. ttfn
