KMS - perhaps your mother in law jealous....i hate it when no-one puts any effort in too....every year my stepsons wife puts some purfume in a bag for me...i dont wear perfume... I was a bit embarressed at christmas though because OH said I paid more attention to the bag than the gift...the gift bag was gorgeous, so beautiful, it was about an A4 size and in the bottom was this little box of perfume. Apparently while they were here I kept on about the bag and forgot to say anything about the perfume:eek:

Good idea Susan about making notes on a notepad.
I need to do that!
I have finally started the blog. I tried and tried for about four hours to get the gorgeous backgrounds that you see. Blogger templates are rubbish. I wanted a posh one like everyone else.Well, I've given up for the day. Could someone please give me some pointers? I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what.

Hi all
KMS was it you with the comments from MIL?
Personally I'd rather money than a gift, because that way I can't be offended by the present (if it's rubbish). Plus people don't often have the time to shop around or else don't know what to buy.
Re the 'why didn't you buy something' comment about home made gifts. Two ways to interpret this - either she is concerned that you've gone to so much time and effort. Or else she just said it without thinking because she doesn't like home made gifts for herself. You don't need to take it personally although I can understand why it could have seemed uncomfortable.
It reminded me of the time I spent hours digging up the lawn in order to create a large bed in my front garden. Someone I know walked by and asked why I was wasting my time and I got a bit annoyed to say the least (because I loved gardening at the time). Same as you enjoy making your handmade gifts - we shouldn't have to explain ourselves.
Elysia - why don't you do a Google search on craft blogs and look at the names and see if anything similar could suit you.0 -
Hi erm, I feel really christmasy today too i am going to make my christmas cakes today
And last night i made a list of all the people i want/need to buy for this year and was trying to decide what to do for everyone, i asked my inlaws (who invited themselves down for dinner!!) what they wanted this year and got the typical answer of oh i don't mind, you don't have to buy us anything speech  so think as a joke i am going to give them a box of nothing
Someone is def getting xmasy - wheres Sarah when we need her for the countdown.....
And then when i was sorting my step sisters birthday hamper out with homemade soaps, bath salts and candles among other things, my mil said oh i hate things like that why haven't you just brought her them? (the hm things) And although she said she liked my hm birthday card for her again she said why didn't you just buy her one?
It really annoys me, my step sister is pregnant at the moment and everyone has brought her things for the baby for her birthday so i thought i would make her a litte hamper up for HER, she loves anything natural and that is exactly what the hm things are. And although they are homemade i still had to buy the ingredients etc, so if anything it cost more this way
Sorry for the rant but the more i think about it the more it upsets me than my mil was so rude. Am i reading too much into it?
PS for xmas/birthday i was get money or vouchers from my in laws as does my hubby and kids, which is nice and i don't mean to sound ungreatful and i think is fine for more distant relatives but for close family, i think a bit more thought could go into it.
Rant away, thats what were here for, if you can't rant among friends where can you rant.
I think that is a lovely idea for stepsister, as you say people get everything for the baby, and if she is anything like me, bit hormonal, so nice to have something for me, not sounding mean or selfish, but a little treat. Maybe your MIL didn't realise how much effort goes into making the cards, and just said what she thought. I think home made cards are lovely.
I totally agree with you, close family, I think its nice to get presents for. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0
