elysia, so sorry about the dog, its the hardest thing, but you tried and thats a loy more than most people would do.
Can't believe how organised everyone is, heading to Torquay later in the week, nose to the ground for the 98p shop.....
Found a shop local that does 4 mugs for £1.00 so may have to do a diversion for some mugs, going to cheat slightly and use some cadburys sachets, and a mini whisk, there be ready for the 1001 people she wants to buy for.
Just put a half cost order throu, they;ve got quite good range of kids gifts for £1.99 so that go towards the emergency bday list, shes got 2 parties so far in June, then start again Sept... never ending xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I've made a money box by covering an SMA tin with paper by using double sided tape. I covered it around 2 years ago and all the paper is still attached
I've never tried using glue as I prefer double sided tape - less messy!
I haven't tried painting the tins either but might give it a go to experiment. I would imagine emulsion paint would work better than gloss and it might be best to sand the tin a bit so it gives it a bit of grip. I'm just guessing though!
Thanks Nicky!cdsmiler - I've used pva glue, pritt stick, wallpaper paste I've had left over, and it all seems to work ok -depending on the surface. Most of mine haven't been bare tin -more like cardboard (gravy tubs etc.) I've used felt, bits of old curtain, paper, corrugated card - whatever takes your fancy really.
Thanks Mary!Clare I had to smile when I read your post about thinking about your future childminder's presents:D:D:D:D We're all mad!

Hello all :j
Clare - is that what it is - madness ??? And there was me thinking it was some kind of illness ...........lol:rotfl:
We can't be that barmy surely........had a visitor this afternoon I hadn't seen since before christmas and I'd sent her a bag of allsorts of 'stuff' - post it note key ring, post it notebook with pen, peg with magnet on and flower......she loved it all :T So we can't be that bad can we ?
Well, today started off on a 'down' note with our old cat having to be put to sleep..........poor soul was 17 and had got to the stage where her kidneys were failing and the vet said there was nothing could be done for her -we knew that really from previous cats we've had.
Still, at least now she's at peace and we've still got the other two younger ones. Can't be without my cats.
Managed to get my plastic tub covered before my visitor arrived so thats all ready now -next thing is to do one of these 'no cake cakes'..............off to look up instructions again....................lol:rotfl:I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Mary, sorry to hear about your cat.
So what 'not a cake' cake are you talking about? Cake in a jar or towel cake or something else?:)
Mum2one - thank goodness I just read your post about the Cadbury sachets because it reminded me of something I forgot to put on this week's shopping list - marshmallows.
Clare I'm looking forward to your ideas for the childminder too.
I had thought I was so organised for greeting cards but until I read the posts in the last week, I had totally overlooked Father's Day :mad:0 -
Angela - think its called a 'no cake sweet cake'........anyway its made with something like the oasis you get from the florist, cover it with tin foil and then with toothpicks stick a lot of sweets round the outside and on the top.............hope that makes sense.
There is a thread on it somewhere but I can't find it  Then comp switched off and I had to re-start -checked My Pictures folder and I'd got a piccy saved thank goodness.
Just had an idea about it though..........round the outside, rather than toothpicks I could use those sherbet type lollies............less toothpicks the better I think -grandsons will be 3 (have forwarned his parents about it though). On the top I'm going to put 3 candles and a Happy Birthday sign you get from cake shops.
The whole lot I'll wrap in some cello I've got and put it in the plastic tub I've covered then hopefully it'll post ok with all the cooking stuff I'm sending himI would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Hi Mary
I've seen something on the special occasions forum that's a cake within a cake so there are all sorts of sweets inside and covered up by more sweets to look like icing, but I haven't seen one that has an oasis in the middle.
Well we learn something everyday don't we LOL It sound interesting.0 -
Angela - I think you can use oasis covered with foil, doughnuts, a small sponge cake........anything really. The general idea is its a cake made from sweets.
I found the thread in the end -no good at links - but every time I went on to photobucket to have a look I got the photobucket page come up several times and wouldn't go away:eek: Had to switch comp off in the end and switch back on again so think I'll steer clear of photobucket for a while.I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I know the cake you mean. Good luck and hope it turns out well. Wish I'd known about that when the children were little.
Very annoying when the computer goes strange after being on certain sites, I get that a lot and everything freezes often happens when I go on the newspapers online.0 -
Just to let you know that Hotprints now let you order 4 free books per month - just pay P&P (x4) - I've just ordered a couple for Father's Day for my dad and DH and also a couple for myself (never get round to printing photos of the kids - so have made myself a good collection of old and new piccies :j)

PS Mum2One and Nicky - hope you are doing better and sorry to hear about your cat Mary, it's awful when a pet has to be put to sleepThrifty Gifty February make £20 challenge £21.05/£20.0 -
So sorry to hear your news Mary. It's so sad to have to do that, but as you know, it's kinder this way. (((big hugs for you)))
I have bought the retro sweets today to make a sweetie bouquet for my sister, to go with her presents. Hopefully it will turn out as nice as the one on Jamtarts blog.I :heartpuls M.S.E.Mortgage Free 18/01/10 13 years and 8 months early on a 20 year mortgage!
