Just thought I'd let you know, a while back I mentioned a quilting method where you can make squares exceptionally fast as you quilt them as you make them, instead of in different stages, but I didn't know the name and someone here suggested it was a Cathedral design.

Today I found out it is Japanese quilting.

That was me: thanks for finding the proper name for it, I can try and find out a bit more about it now, will ask at my quilting group on Thursday if anyone has done it.

I'm having a dilemma - lol. I have a £20 Amazon voucher and I can buy my mums mothers day present, dads fathers day present and my brothers birthday present.. but it's so tempting to want to spend it on myself. I guess I'll buy these gifts though, if I go hunting in shops closer to the time I know I'll just spend more!

Go on, treat yourself, you know you want to :D

Hi Kiwi, welcome to the group, you're doing going with all those advance pressies

Loopychriss, those squares are so easy and attractive (with the right fabrics), hope you try them one day. My friend at the craft club today was making them with patterned middles and black as the outer colour.

sounds lovely... do you think you could get a picture next time you see her please... even if it's not finished, just so I get an idea of how they'll look....

A lady at my quilting group is making a bag by a similar technique, she's using hexagons in 2 different sizes... that looks lovely too. I've got the pattern for that but haven't got around to sorting out any fabric for it yet. Have to sort it out soon, I want to make both my 2 girls and my sis-in-law one for their Christmas pressies!

I can't post URL's for some reason, look up a site called Kimono.com and go to WORKSHOPS. There's a page on Japanese patchwork which is what I was talking about - although they don't show the individual squares. I think they're called Kaleiescope squares..

The squares my friend is doing is the same except the stitching is in the same colour as the fabric, not in white as in the Saisho technique. She does do a lot of that Saisho embroidery and hand dyes fabric then stitches on the top.

I've also made some very easy Christmas ornaments with Japanese origami fabric quilting, but I couldn't find any pics online and I don't have any.

Have you made any like that?.

Hi Kiwi - have seen you on dooyoo, you're already in my circle. :D

You lot are so clever with your quilting, I'm so envious. :T

Started on the family tree cross stitch, but it's on cream evenweave material and I usually like aida (less counting). I stitched all afternoon, When I put it down, I must have made a mistake and have sown it incorrectly. Instead of the material being left to right across, the longer sides were top to bottom. Argghhhhh.

So instead of unpicking it, I just bought some aida in white (I prefer it to cream) and shall start it again, hopefully it will be here tomorrow.

    What a banana brain!!!!!!

That's a shame Elysia. I can empathise as the other day not only did I nearly cut through my duvet cover (as I was doing it on my bed) but then as I was stitching away I discovered I'd sewn an extra bit of material on the back by accident!

White Aida seems better than evenweave and I hope you enjoy working on it. Is it going to be a big project? Seems very scary to me.

Hi everyone. I would like to join in if you all don't mind.
I have been following last years thread (admittedly too late to be able to do much) and this one so far with interest but spend most of my time reading and not really posting as time is one thing that is not on my side.

I am not very crafty although last year I tried snowman soup, guinness glasses, pots of gold and a few hampers so want to do more of the same this year and try and expand if possible. Have already bought bothe fathers day presents, a mothers day present and 4 birthday presents for later in the year. Even have 2 xmas presents sorted too. Makes me sound slightly organised.

Similarly to others I have a few people who would not appreciate this kind of presents but I am working on changing that.

I have joined dooyoo and am trying to think of things to review (sounds strange but you take a mental block when faced with it) as I want to top up my earnings whre possible. Its only me and my hubby and 3 dogs but we would maybe like to think of children soon and I want to be in the best position possible. :D

Anyway enough rambling just thought I should say hello rather than lurking.

Thanks for all your wonderful ideas and inspiration it has been a huge help. :T:j
