Have only just picked up on this post but better late than never. All four installed and working well. Virus in e-mail attachment detected and destroyed one day after installation. Many thanks.0

can someone help me with info for my friend? she's just bought a Mac i-book and when i asked if she had any A-V software or a firewall she said 'oh, you don;t need them for macs as no one bothers to write virus' etc for them.' sounds a bit dodgy to me - is this correct and if not what should i recommend she uses (pref free!)
would hate to see her have probs on a machine shes just spent a fortune on!!!

it is true that 99% of virus and exploits are for PC's and not macs
so the chances are that she is correct that she'll probably never get a virus. There just isn't enuff incentive for anyone to write one :-)
not sure about free stuff for macs but start with a search at tucows.com then zdnet.com
hope that helps

;D Olla!
Can anyone please help ??? Spyware and po-ups are driving me MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have downloaded AD_AWARE and was agast when, after my last sesh on the net i ran a scan and found 15, YES 15!
this has helped no end, but I'm still being "bugged" by pop-ups, and, worryingly, on supposedly "SECURE" sites, like my bank!!!
Can you help? (I'm still quite new to the whole internet thingy and need something quite "User friendly"
Thanks,
Rebus::)

Goto tucows.com or zdnet.com and have a look in their downloads section for pop up blockers. They have a few free ones
With the other 4 programs i've highlighted you should be completely covered.
p.s. don't forget to vote for this as post of the month, link is on 1st post LOL-34k to 0 from september '05
