used to pick up money all the time in school, and got bullied something terrible for it - they used to throw penny's and stuff at me, hurt quite a bit really

don't think they twigged they were throwing about £2 a day at me, but in the end i stopped because i couldn't deal with the hastle

ended up moving from that school because the teachers either refused to acknowledge it existed in their oh so perfect school or they had no idea how to deal with it

Why did you do something foolish like that then when you knew what the consequences of doing it were going to be??

Kids can be very mean, it wasn't your fault. They will pick on anyone who's just a little bit different. I was the target every so often, the only reason I can think of is because I was overweight. I hope it hasn't affected you too badly long term. :kisses3:
  • I do pick up 1p's because of the luck aspect but other than that the lowest I will pick up is 10p. Reason is 2p's just make your purse bulky and 5p's fall out of my purse (it's a silly design in that way but I love the purse!).

Reminds me of a few months ago, hubby and I went to York. We were in the train station and I saw 1p, so I picked it up. There was another 1p nearby and I encouraged hubby to pick it up for luck. He bent down and there was this loud "rrrriiipp" sound, his trousers had ripped all the way down the seam on his bum!! He gave me such a disgusted look and went to the loos to assess the damage. He came back with his coat tied round his waist cos it was that bad.

I laugh at the slightest funny thing that happens to someone (as long as they're not hurt!). I was in hysterics, I couldn't walk!!! My eyes are streaming with laughter now at the thought of it! Worst thing is, he obviously complains that I'm laughing at him, but then makes little comments that reminds me of whatever it is and I laugh again!
  • Why would anyone NOT pick up money?

If it's in a shop or on someone's premises I always hand it in. I picked up £60 in £20 notes years ago in the reception of Castle Howard in Yorkshire. Six months later they sent it to me in the post because no-one had claimed it! Honesty is the best policy!

In the street, our whole family pick up any coins we find. We start in January and put them all in a box to be counted on New Year's Day the next year. This year's will probably pay for a cinema trip for 4.

I do feel for the person who was bullied for picking coins up. It's rotten to be bullied for being yourself and doing what you want to do. We all know it gets easier as you get older but it horrible when you are at school.

Merry Christmas and a debt-free New Year!

There is a bloke locally who goes around looking for cash on the ground all the time, he is not destitute lives in a det bungalow doesn't work dresses well etc. I see him more in the summer time he does the rounds a few times a day, his eyes are constantly on the ground. He has a circuit that covers car park meters etc anywhere he can find cash. When he has enough he goes and buys the discounted food at the supermarkets. Fair play to him.

That's not fair, it's MY patch! :D In fact it was probably my OH, except our "detached bungalow" is a dormer, he doesn't dress very tidy, and at the moment he works part time!

I always pick any amount up, with great glee. I did go a bit far the other day and wait while a woman moved away from the Lottery counter in a shop as I had spotted a 5p by her foot :o.

I found two £2 coins in the snow today - it was like winning said Lottery! :)
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Usually 10p or more, but sometimes will go for a 5p if I spot it (very tiny to see). I'm glad that others pick up the 1s and 2s, I always think if I see one that I hope a little kid will pick it up and buy sweets as that is what my Mum used to let us do back in the day when you got sweets for a penny, that or we would save them up. I still have a penny pot for all my loose change, last time I emptied it there was over £7!
    Mortgage Free since January 2018!
  • I'd probably pick up 20p or more. I generally offload all my 1p, 2p and 5p coins to charity collections boxes when they're next to the till.
