We're going to keep collecting it until we have enough to pay for a treat...the cinema or bowling alley maybe...the sort of thing I can't normally afford to do....it will be a lovely present for my kids, courtesy of all the people who can't be bothered to pick up what they drop! :j
there's a 1p early morning bowling offer on at the moment if you have a Hollywood Bowl near you!0 -
I picked up 1p just this morning. The number of times I've been at a shop and had to break a large note (which promptly 'disappears') just for the lack of 1p or 2p absolutely makes it worthwhile to have a few coppers kicking around in my purse.0

I was in a farmer's market in Clapham earlier in the year and a woman dropped a 50p coin, and said to her kid who went to pick it up 'oh leave it, it's dirty now'
I grabbed it quick sharp - I always pick up any pennies - I've a demi-john full of found coppers - about £28 in there over the years0 -

This is an attitude of mind regarding the general value of money. This site is all about being careful with money. Being careful long-term surely requires the individual to value money (or I should say, value the benefits it can bring). I wonder what proportion of people with debt problems also have an attitude of 'It is not much so it is not important'.
I guess a lot of regular readers here do not have pressing debt problems and follow Martin's tips so they remain that way. I also guess that many of these people are the ones who would pick-up 2p. It is a pity that a poll could not be done to determine if my theory is right.
Personally, I will pick-up any amount, particularly if I think it is 'thrown-away' change.
All in my opinion, of course. Does anyone else share my thoughts?Money may not buy happiness .. but it lets you be miserable in comfort.0 -
I don't care what the denomination, I pick them all up on principle.., it's the only money I don't pay tax on.0

Staff at school pick coins up. Kids don't. In fact they have even been known to leave a trail of dropped coins for a laugh, or glue them to the ground.:rotfl:0

Ain't this a little interesting poll?! It is really based on the people that have look at this 'Money Saving' website.
Definition - 'Saving' from 'dictionary.com'
–adjective 1. tending or serving to save; rescuing; preserving.0 -

As a child, if I spotted a penny etc on the floor I'd do the penny dance ie a gradual shift towards the lonely coin, put leg out, foot on top, and slowly drag foot back into a normal standing stance while gradually shifting back to my mum or dad. Don't expect to see it on Strictly Come Dancing any time soon, but I still do it! I usually find I locate a stray coin around the time I've undercharged on eBay postage etc so I look on it as 'Divine recycling/sharing the wealth'. So, it's 2p and upwards as far as coins are concerned. Never found any notes, but then it would have to be charity/police station etc depending on the amount and circumstances in which it was found. I do like the idea of actually totalling up a year's worth of finds as it makes it fun especially if you can then attribute some treat etc to the effort.
Somebody had left 30p on the bus seat I went to sit on the other day. I was so excited it became my Facebook status update!0
