Wow JackieO, your wardrobe sounds so balanced! I must have 30 or 40 skirts and comparatively not much of anything else - well apart from stripy socks, my weakness.

After careful consideration I'm opting out of the challenge. Not because I've blown the budget, I have just ordered a £70 odd handmade skirt but it isn't because of that. I don't spend all that much on clothes anyway, most of my stuff is thrifted or made by myself and what I do buy I can afford. So I will follow the thread and be cheering you all on and it will definitely help me in my less sensible moments but I'm finding myself with less and less time and more and more stress so I'm being good to myself.

I am in the middle of sorting through clothes. i have found so many nice things i had forgotten i had. some brand new with tags and some old favorites i thought i lost.
  • Blonde Ambition, I dont really know why you joined this challenge, the idea is to save money by not buying so many clothes & therefore use what you save on clearing debts. Why have you bought 2 pairs of wellies & 2 black dresses in one week  I would strongly suggest that you return one of each item, your sig says you still owe Barclaycard so the money you are spending actually isnt yours, it belongs to Barclaycard.

Sorry if you dont like my tough love method, I'm here to help people spend less in order to clear their debts, not applaud their excesses ;).[/QUOTE]

Oops. Am feeling pretty sheepish and told off! I was talking with a friend last night and decided to return a pair of the shoes and one of the dresses. And now I definitely will. I joined this challenge precisely because I find it so hard to resist new clothes. I very very rarely buy anything at full price but I do love a bargain.

I don't want anyone to think I'm being flippant with this challenge. I wasn't expecting applause. My resolution today is to put some old clothes on ebay to try to get some more money for the budget. I can't return the stuff until next weekend so I'll change my signature when I have the money back in my hand.

It's true what you've said about my Barclaycard debt. I've been paying it off systematically for quite over a year now. I didn't feel too bad about it because it's 0% and I could account for what I'd spent on it (house renovations and car) so I thought to myself that at least I'd not been frivolous. I had a bit of a LBM a week or so ago when I realised that, even though clothes etc weren't on my debt card, I could have paid the card off a lot sooner if I hadn't bought so many clothes, make up and other bits and pieces. I've signed up to the Debt vs 100 days challenge and will actually pay off the card by the end of Feb.

So Lula, if you don't mind I will try to continue with the challenge and I'll try harder. Promise!

Well done to everyone else for doing so well.

Feb tomorrow and I start the challenge.
I have the full £100 and about £45 in vouchers for Debs and M&S:j

actually the Debs vouchers will probably go towards make up so can only use when finish some as on the toiletry challenge too:rotfl:

I do need some new pop socks so that will use the M&S vouchers(how exciting!!!!!)

am avoiding going into town(Cambridge full of lovely shops) but have to go to St IVes (with only a couple of shops worth looking in) to the dentist next week so will see how strong I can be then:rotfl:

    Hi all :)

A little late, but please add me in :) I haven't spent anything on clothes in January so hopefully I still count! :)

Going for the £100, I would like it to be £0 but I have my brothers wedding in August and I'm putting serious work into losing weight so may need to buy a few essentials in the smaller sizes (fingers crossed ;)) at some point so need to be realistic.

Thanks :) Good luck to everyone!

ETA: I sorted my clothes out this past week and I found a LOT that I had never worn, some even when the tags on. Hoping to keep the tagged ones to sell (as Ive had them a year without wearing them so I can't like them that much) when it gets nearer the summer.

Hello & welcome to newcomers After Dark & Christmas :hello:

Mariel - sorry to lose you but having seen your sig & that you have paid off £8,000 of debt :j then you certainly deserve to treat yourself :APlease keep popping in when you have time though :D

Blonde Ambition - Yay for you continuing :j I didnt want to be mean to you but the bit about the money not being your own was exactly what a wise DFW 'elder' said to me a while back on another thread when I was contemplating yet another frivolous purchase :o I do applaud your refusal to buy things at full price & it's my love of bargains that contributed to some of my CC debt.

I'm being extra strict with myself this year for 2 reasons :

    1) I didnt lose any of the weight I planned last year (which was one of the reasons I stated the challenge in the first place - having too many clothes that I couldnt fit into )

    2) Inspite of paying hundreds off my CC every month, at the end of the year I had only cleared a miserable £600 off the total debt :o:o:o this is because whatever I cleared I ended up re spending :wall:I may have kept to the clothes challenge budget but wow did I make up for it with bags, shoes, accessories etc :(.

I typify repression of one need being substituted by another; I quit smoking & started devouring cake, I quit buying clothes & started buying everything else instead  ... so this year I am kicking my own @rse all the way to losing 20lbs & clearing my CC debt & you all have free right to kick it for me if I dont stick to it

My aim is to lose 5lb each month & today I can declare that I have just about managed the first step :)

JackieO - that sounds like a very organised wardrobe you have there :A

raven-333 - Yay for finding new jeans :j

rosemary54 - Yay for having vouchers as well as cash :j

Must add newbies to list, bye for now

    xx

ps - Blonde Ambition - really glad you're staying with us :)
  • Thanks very much! Good luck all :)
  • I had a bit of a clearout of my wadrobe in the week and have given a big bag of clothes to my mom to take to the charity shop. I can't beliveve how many things I forgot I had!

It was my birthday earlier in the month so have had some new clothes, so for me so far it's a £0 spend on clothes - although i've been tempted a few times but remembered the challege and decided against it!
