As somebody who has no clue about what I should be wearing I'm looking up all the clothes people mention (purple tailcoat!) and trying to educate myself for the day when I do actually buy myself something! Seriously, any general guidance - good books etc about how a 12st 45 year old woman should put together a wardrobe would be really appreciated because I am hopeless!

Hi franby64! My advice would be to keep to the classics mainly, but if you wanted to tune in with the season's look, then accessorise. At least this way, the main staples in your wardrobe will look good year on year! I would also recommend having just a few real quality pieces (cashmere jumper/great white shirt/well-fitting jeans etc) that you feel and look great in :D

Am still happy to report no spends so far, although those bloomin' DP sequin blazers are still hounding me... ;)

Have a great day everyone :j

Well, still broke and untempted, and even got rid of loads of clothes to the charity shop (well, picked them out and bagged them; taking them out tomorrow because I already have my day bus pass for tomorrow and am not willing to spend money on one for today just to go there).

Lipsy are refunding me for the dress bought pre-Xmas, so that's much needed money back in my bank account, and I am about to return those 2 cardies I bought for £30 the other week.

So to recap: This year, spent: £22 on lingerie.
  • Hi
This is my debut to the Debt Free Wannabees! I'm such a luddite! Had my lightbulb moment last night - really frightening! My big issue is I don't know where the money goes and my statements don't help much. Starting a spending diary today and hope to make sense of my expenditure fast although I'm not in debt crisis (yet)

Anyway sign me up, I have enough but I never would have thought of ebaying 2nd hand clothes. Do they really sell?

Check out (via my profile) a thread I started; I am keeping a diary this year, accounting for every single penny coming in and out. Feel free to contribute. :)

    Hi all

Still haven't spent anything but my Christmas presents should last me a while.

I did go shopping though in New Look yesterday for DD2's birthday and I really enjoyed picking out something for her (hope she likes it!) - shopping by proxy - I think my daughters are going to benefit from me not being able to buy clothes for myself - not very moneysaving!

I really like the flowery stuff they have in there - I always like flowery stuff when it comes around - but I think perhaps its a bit young for me.

I no the feeling. I'm a almost 60 yr old:eek: woman 5ft 10ins tall, quite slim, i weigh 10 1/2 stone. And i keep thinking i dress far too young. I dont meen short skirts, short tops etc. But everytime i go to buy myself something i think is (my age) my DH and DD age15 tell me "its horrible you look like a granny" Well i am a granny, the eldest beeing 22yrs old.
I would dearly love someone like Gok to tell me what i should wear.
Any one with any suggestions? Keep it clean.

  • NGlady-Hey thank you for the link -unfortunately it would cost me more to get to Leeds to the bigswap there - but it's certianly a great idea for those who could attend.

But I couldn't understand why you have to pay a fiver for a ticket to it-is it for admin, organisation, experts time etc or is part of it a donation to cancer research?

Anyway might have to look throught the site to see if I could use some ideas to have a "swishing" party at home- and I did say "swish";) lol

    Hi All,

I haven't joined this challenge but have been keeping an eye on it and just want to wish you all continued success and even though I haven't joined it is rubbing off on my because I haven't bought anything yet and keep thinking about what I have in my wardrobe before purchasing anything else.
    Sealed pot challenge - £400 no.491
  • Bought loads but not going to count it as it was out of my christmas money!

Got £100 and managed to buy 2 pairs leather ankle boots from clarks, pair skinny jeans, white shirt, silk dress and long cream top all from next sale, necklace from M&S sale and just bought a skirt from coast. And I still have £1.50 left:j

Will need to buy a top to go with the coast skirt I think though unless I find something in my wardrobe.
