Hey everyone & welcome to our latest recruit tazzy2010 :hello:

I am agreeing with Dinah93 who has clearly understood exactly what the challenge is all about :j. It is not meant to be about getting as much stuff as you can as cheaply as possible :D.

Dont forget what sales are actually all about; shops getting rid of the old stock that no one wanted to buy at full price, so that they can then sell you a new load of stuff at a higher price :D

I am wondering how I coped last year & whether I felt the constant urge to buy new stuff that many people seem to be feeling at the moment.... I can tell you that out of the £100 I spent last year I remember buying a pair of jeans & one t shirt & ... ummmm ....errr ... nope, cant remember  oh yes, hang on, a dress & a skirt from ebay, surely not £100 though .

Can anyone who didnt do the challenge last year, remember exactly what new clothes they bought & how much they cost ?

Chickywiggle - if you read the first page; I listed in detail everything that I do & dont count in the challenge. Many challengers have decided what they personally wish to include & exclude from the challenge, you're free to do the same ;)

    Hi all

Very nearly spent a fiver on a nice shirt in the sales but thought about it and realised, didnt actually need a shirt and would much rather save the money for something I wanted.
Completely agreee with you Lula x x

    Evening,

Really admire eveyone who's doing this challenge. Have spent £100 already this year but it's on classics that are great quality and will last for years hopefully -

    2 wool coats
    1 cashmere jumper
    1 cashmere cardi
    2 merino wool cardis
    1 silk top
1 wool day dress for work
1 silk and devore dress for the work Christmas party (advance planning or what?!)

Not bad for £100 all in - all from Autograph at M&S or Gap.

But time to reign myself in now...

    xx

    Hi Sharona,

that's a great haul of fab items; when I am finally debt free I intend to do exactly that kind of quality classic sales shopping. I looooooove cashmere :)

ok dokes, I am NOT counting esseentials. I.e. in this case my old ones broke therefore i needed new ones or i would have to walk barefoot to work........... or in my pink slippers like a friend of mine did by accident when she was pregnant.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
  • Hello All

    No. 135 reporting in:D

Am heading into next town today although much smaller than to the one I live near to -but it has a couple of nice charity shops - but just came on here to remind myself of key points before setting off.;)

And I did resist at weekend when I went shopping with DD3 at weekend. She needed new footy boots so we went to a few sporty shops & Matalan (for a handbag she had seen before -no longer there though)& Next & others ....so many -oh my goodness the rails of pretty shiny material were luring me in.......but I stayed strong and walked away! Yay.

Although I did find out on Saturday I need a new pair of waterproof trousers- the lining has all cracked and I got very wet! I use them all the time to go dog walking - Will see if I can get a pair of freecycle first or charity shop before buying.

    Stay strong everyone!

I've driven to work in my slippers before.... didn't have the excuse of being pregnant though! Worse though I once left work with no shoes on - it was only when I got in the car and my feet just wrapped around the pedals I realised! (I have a minor circulation problem which means I often can't really feel my feet!)

Lula-Hula, honestly I can remember a couple of items, I got a lovely floaty shirt for holiday to Egypt that was about £25, and I blew £100 on holiday bits in Tesco, most of which I didn't like as they were cheap and unflattering so I sold them again on ebay just keeping 2 £3 bikinis and 2 pairs of shorts for £10, I got a fair few fitted t-shirts for work, which weren't essential, about 4 dresses from asos and a long black cardi, which to be fair I did wear a lot until I lost a stone and now they're too big except the cardi, I got some trainers and yoga pants which I used several times a week until I 'popped' my knee and can't work out anymore until I've had my MRI, and my OH saved up and gave me £200 to go shopping and for a day out with my mum, which was lovely of him and I got some really nice dresses from zara, a couple of bits from monsoon and so on, but I can't remember everything I got that day and nothing was really essential except for the fact all my old clothes were a bit big.

As I see it I've got three issues which could cause me to overspend which I need to find a way to address. The first is my honeymoon, the second is I don't really do cheap clothes as the cut seems to be so unflattering, so my £100 would get me at most 3-4 items. Finally, and this is the big one, most of my clothes are a largish 12, I am now a 10, and by the time I finish my diet in a couple of months I intend to be a mid size 8. I can do basic sewing so I can alter some clothes, but I wouldn't have the confidence to alter a pair of trousers other than the length. So I'll see how the year goes on but if it becomes a fitting issue I might have a mass clearout of my bigger stuff on ebay, and use the money to buy a more capsule wardrobe that fits my new size. That way I'm not overspending but I'm not looking like a bag lady in my badly fitting clothes either!

Think waterproof trousers are essentials Debs, they're not exactly a fashion item!

    Hello everyone, just checking in.

For the record, I *almost* went to work in my slippers once, was just locking the front door when I looked down and realised... no pregnancy to use as an excuse either!

I have only bought a pair of jeans so far which was with my Christmas gift voucher, and were reduced to £12 in the sale and exactly what I was after :) so 'spends that count' still = £0

Also forgot to declare that I am including everything in this challenge, shoes, undies, accessories, work clothes, the lot. There is nothing I particularly need at the moment (now I have the jeans) and I usually accrue vouchers through the year anyway so have to make sure I am challenging myself. Not counting ebay either as that all goes towards the debt.

Very glad I checked in as I'm feeling quite inclined to tackle the ironing pile now, this thread does funny things to you!

Going to see if I can somehow squeeze this challenge in my sig...
