Hope you are all well...just to say that I haven't spent anything more on clothes, so still at £40 spent so far.
Don't really need anything else so can't see I'll be spending for a while!

  • Hi. Just popping in even though I've opted out of the challenge. Had to come on this thread as was feeling a bit depressed earlier as had to take two tops back to H&M (total about £26) as, even though I liked them, there is too much month left at the end of the money. I recently celebrated being debt-free but I've had a few large expenses this month so am having to be careful and I couldn't really justify keeping them. I refuse to go into the overdraft or put anything on my credit card to be paid next month. I just about managed to escape the shop unscathed and empty-handed even though I saw more stuff I liked and they've got a promotion on jackets. Aaargh! What devils! Anyway, was feeling a bit down so have had a little "shop" in my wardrobe and discovered some nice stuff with tags on. I'm going to rethink a few items and hopefully come up with some new outfits.

Also, just thinking about a post-debt clothes budget, I bought the Gok book the other day which says the average British woman spends a, wait for it, THOUSAND POUNDS A YEAR on clothes! But about a third of these are unworn. So my new budget is £300, challenging myself to spend only what other people waste. Also, although I love new clothes, I hate to see so many things going to waste in my wardrobe.

Thank you everybody for being an inspiration to me!

Just checking in to admit a £5 spend on a black t-shirt in DP (I resisted the 3 for £12 even tho they had the most amazing cerise colour)........... this was VITAL as the one i was wearing was really old and had obv not washed properly so STUNK and no amount of deodrant at work would mask the smell (well in my opinion anyway).
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

    was very nearly bad yesterday:eek:
had an email from windsmoor about their sale so had a look!

I think I must have lost a bit of weight(no wine in lent:mad:) and my trousers are getting v loose so with Windsmoor usually fitting I filled a basket with trousers in 2 sizes.Thought the free delivery was good until I checked the returns policy.....they now charge for returns which would cost a bomb as have to send back in original packaging and they use heavy cardboard boxes:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: so unless i amke a trip to the only shop within travelling distance I won't be getting any:(:(:(
  • Nothing new to report. Broke and untempted and actually going to do another big declutter as I know that deep in some boxes, there are items of clothing I've not worn for years and am not going to wear again so it's time to get rid.

Same here Flickering Ember, I did a huge de-clutter recently but could easily get rid of more things, I just know will never wear. Wore an oldish top to work today and was complimented on it, nice one!

What a fab idea. Well done to the OP for coming up with this idea!

I've just added up that I've spent £60 on clothes already this year!!!! Although that is very unusual for me as I hate going shopping and usually wait until things are falling apart before I replace them!

Although looking at the rules I feel that my purchases were well justified.
I got 2 pairs of work trousers for £24 (would have been £44 but I got vouchers for christmas)
2 tops for £12 but they are suitable for both work and home so I felt that was a good buy.
It seems that the only things I should really count are £12 on things from Primark and £12 on jeans. So £24 is much better than £60! :)
  • So far, I have chucked 2 unwearable shirts and put some other clothes into a bag to take to charity tomorrow. Still going through clothes gradually as and when I can be arsed....I am going to spend a whole 5 days being really ruthless with my clutter at the end of the month and that should really yeild some results....I am moving house at the end of June and I remember how many boxes I had last time and I want to have as much unneccessary stuff gone as possible.
  • Just binned 2 more shirts; so that's 4 unwearable shirts which were taking up room...GONE!! It really does feel so good to see things going and space being created. :)

Also putting some of the winter clothes away to make room for some spring things which also revives the wardrobe and gives me "new" things to wear and look at...things I've not seen for months. :)

Went into town today with Mum before going to see Alice in Wonderland as she wanted to return a skirt to M&S - they had a 50% sale on:eek:. I wandered around picked up a couple of pairs of jeans which I needed as I only have one decent pair, but when I tried them on I suddenly thought about summer coming and therefore I wouldn't really need them for a while, so I put them back. Then I spied a couple of tops that I have had my eye on for ages but even they were reduced to £12 and £17 I couldn't bear parting with 20% of my budget on them, so I realised that I didn't want them as much as I had thought I did.

My only purchases were a belt reduced from £19.50 to £2 and a scarf reduced from £22 to £5. Neither of which count from my budget as they are accessories but also are two things that I needed (only got one belt and it's getting a bit thin).

Amazing how this challenge affects you as before I would probably have been home with 2 pairs of jeans, 2 tops a belt and a scarf totalling £70 and thought what fantastic bargins I had got. Makes you think doesn't it:(
