    More about cards...

DD's Step Mother is pregnant. Her Dad phoned her 2 weeks ago to tell her and she was the last to know, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins etc all knew before her. Now he is giving her grief because she hasnt given SM a 'Congratulations on your pregnancy' card  Even her Grandad is getting in on the act and trying to get her to buy a card. !!!!!!??? Is this a new thing? Does one send a card when one is told that a close family member/friend is pregnant? I didnt know you could buy such a thing. Personally, I am old fashioned and wouldnt do anything until the baby is born safe and sound. She has now got a Christmas card with 'Mum to be' on it and has sent that.

    What does everyone else think?

I think codswallop. Never heard of such a thing, and what if there is a problem along the way, it feels like tempting fate.

Also, stepparents give to their stepchildren, not the other way round, if you see what I mean, your DD has no obligation to do anything at all for this woman. If she is that sensitive to slights, how will she feel when the baby is born any everyone is poking their noses in and giving unwanted advice?

oh SSL !!!!!! a congrats on your pregnancy card - how bloody stupid...
I'm with Jinky, Tooch, FFP and Carlsberg on that one.
What would you send someone unexpectedly pregnant - 'I'm sorry you got caught' ?
Dusty's right - start it I'll join in! It's flipping ridiculous!

No - no immersion on the tank.
I think you should consider looking into it, as you have a tank. At least find out how much it would cost. You don't have to use it unless you need it (and you can have it on a time clock for that). If you do get one, have it put in the BOTTOM of the tank, as hot water rises ;) so that way you can heat a whole tank full :D

two lots of truffles made - one apricot with dried apricot and apricot brandy and one cointreau. I have amaretto & almond and ginger to do. They won't be as beautiful as hex's though. I'd forgotten how messy and sticky they are to make and really don't like being covered in chocolate, so they are 'rustic' truffles :p

Once those are out of the way I'll clear the kitchen again . Supper next I think. Then maybe fudge if I'm feeling energetic.

Basingstoke has apparently come to a grinding halt as usual when it snows. I really hope it clears up soon!

    Hi :j
I'm in too please! Thanks to Pigpen, Toots and Soappie and to all flyladies for being such wonderful forum friends.
Not at the flat this week, but will be flying in Gloucestershire. Have cleaned DD's oven AGAIN today - nearly there with it!!

Best Christmas Present Ever has just been confirmed - WE ARE DEBT FREE!!! No loans. no credit cards, no store cards, no overdraft! Direct debits covered for next month (and that's before this month's pay goes in). Tiny mortgage we have left is covered by ISAs - MSE says not to pay it off yet as the interest rate is super low. Can't believe it - what a relief! Fairly frugal Christmas planned but don't think anyone will really notice.

Thanks to you all on this thread for your money saving ideas and special thanks to those on 'Achieve Something in 12 Weeks' thread. Thanks to Martin for giving us the know how on how to do this both new style and old style.

Need a celebratory drink - I'm all tearful.

    Jx
I could give up chocolate, but I'm no quitter!

SSL - at least you have kept your dignity throughout the years unlike the twerp you was married to (don't mean any offence in that as you loved him once). I can see where your DD is coming from, what a level headed daughter you have brought up - you must be proud!! I am for you
Valli - theres loads more cards like:

Glad you had the best lay of your life
It was good for me - was it for you?
Which position next would you like to try?
Can that be achievable remembering I have a back problem?
The neighbours are complaining but I'm not
Are you going to acknowledge this baby we made?
What do you mean it was a one night stand?
    We have a scan date
    Can you cut the cord?

The list goes on and on!! LOL

Jassa - what a wonderful place to be in!!!! Well done you x

  • Umm, so you know I went for a nap at 2pm? Well I woke up at 7pm! Oops! DH had let me sleep cos he reckoned I must have needed it. He's been out and got the crisis loan cheque, we've been given enough to cover the cost of food for two weeks so that's good. Quite a relief! Not sure how we are going to pay bills that are due but not going to worry, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

After I woke up, DH did a huge wash up while cooking our dinner - how lovely of him! :A

Lil_me how nice that DP did some flying!

Ashia I hope your cold is better soon and that you get more people in at work, sounds like a nightmare, especially as this is a busy week with everyone wanting their meds before the holiday

    Soappie you have nice hands

Carlsberggal glad your DS is home safely now

SSL I’ve never heard of a congratulations on your pregnancy card! It’s fine to tell the person congratulations, but I’ve never heard of anyone writing a card for the purpose! What a stupid idea, what if anything happens?
    I've thought of some:
congratulations on being a birth partner
    congratulations on being a bridesmaid
    congratulations on your divorce

Jassa congratulations on being debt free! I’m so pleased for you!

    2. Catch up on the laundry .. ironing is tomorrows job!
    3. Dust round the whole downstairs
