Your mess wasn't created in a day, so it won't be cleared in a day - just focus on that, follow the daily lists and before you know it, you'll be far more organised!

Out of curiosity, why do you only have two days in which to get it done?

You should join the flylady thread, it's great with the lists during the week. I'd be living in the shed if it wasn't for that thread, my house was awful but now it's so much easier to sort.
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

Is it realistic to tackle all of this in one day? At the most I have 2 days to get it all done.

That in itself is enough to add on even more stress. Is there a particular reason why you have a deadline?

Slow and steady saves the day imo. Pick the smallest and least messy area first...it will be easier to deal with and will give you a lift seeing one area sorted.

Move on to the next least messy and so on.

Black bags are wonderful things, they hold loads and can hide stuff until you have more time. So if the worst comes to the worst and you haven't made as much progress as you'd hoped, and you've run out of time...then hide things in the shed/garage/car boot etc etc.

  • Oh dear - sounds like my house. Can I ask why you only have 2 days to sort it? That seems to equate to lots of pressure within a timeframe.

I would start with the useless bits - buggy & dvd player outside - would suggest freecycle if you're a user. Chuck all the clothes in the spare room - you can rummage through these at your leisure. Will take ages to wash, dry, fold, iron etc so essentials only.

Motivate the kids. No tv, laptop, games consoles or anything else electric until they have spent at least an hour tidying, hoovering and sweeping (oops, just read they are away. You must get them to do this when they return).

General junk straight into binbags then straight out to bin.

Do join the decluttering thread - really inspiring.

Dont feel under pressure to do everything at once. One room at a time will show a result best. Use the kids whether they are 2 or 20, they can learn how to tidy their bits and sweep/dust/hoover. Dont forget to take regular breaks - that way you can re-engergise and appreciate the difference you are making. And remember - you're not the only one...

smiley-hug008.gif Massive hugs to you Poppy. I can't imagine how your feeling. Can only echo everyongeelse in saying you know where we are. Use the forum (ala star warssmiley-vault-star-wars-018.gif).

Got lappy back. It was a toss up between having him moan through the holiday or let him play on his game (not the one I bought him either grrr).

Yes we have chosen 11th September as our wedding date. I know its sounds a weird date (my sister suffered major outrage when she heard it but she'll get over it....or else) but it's the one that works best for us and the people we want to invite. I can't wait so if anyone has tips or suggestion/ideas I'm all ears.
    Now MARRIED!11/09/10
