Have a house wifey question - what dishwasher stuff do people use and does it leave water marks? I didnt have a DW at the other house and am getting used to this one very quickly! I bought some Fairy 3 or 4 in all tablets and the rinse and salt lights are flashing but I thought if I bought the all in ones they shouldn't leave watermarks?

Thanks soappie - you are definately in the angel category - I felt really bad that I had not done the stars but didnt like to ask because you were busy too.

    Don't be daft :p

Just holler if you're busy, I'm sure between us we can get them done quite quickly. Maybe I'll just sneak on now and then and update - just check the last 'stars done to' post and if you put one up when you've done some, we'll know where we are. Did you have a good time?

I have been writing all afternoon. I missed my self imposed deadline of Christmas day for the first draft so am making up big time. I WILL get it done by New Year's Eve!

DS sent a text saying "two for dinner and the new Poirot" he'd misunderstood an advert about the next new one, thinking it was today instead of next Sunday. I phoned him up and put him right and said that I was NOT cooking roast dinner tonight, in fact I don't know what I'm cooking but they're welcome to come over if they wish, but he got the hint and they're staying home :D

Am now about to sort out my dinner. I have a couple of roasties left from Christmas Day so I'll reheat those and have them with yet more turkey. Tomorrow I plan to make pies and freeze them.

Congratulations Nikki:j - Will be listening for your ms wedding tips (and those of others) to plan my wedding in September, begining to think I should have started earlier cos I'm the queen of indecsion.

Home has remained somewhat neat, mind you OH has sat playing games so there's only so much mess he can make. I'm trying to figure out how to be more organised and stuff as part of new year, have had the wild thought that I might need to take a step back and sloooooow down. You never know, might be a good idea in there somewhere.

Right off to make tea and watch Top Gear

I gave up using the all in one tablets because I hate being forced to put so much expensive stuff in the DW and I found they would end up not dissolved and I'm sure it wasn't doing the DW any good so I've reverted to good old fashioned salts, rinse aid and a cheapy DW powder. Dishes come out brilliantly

thifty I only use Finish - whichever version is on offer, I found anything else to be a false economy but this is probably due to the useless Zanussi lump of rubbish I am stuck with for the forseeable future. I find the disolveable wrapper ones worse than the others though,

When I manage to sell my soul to replace it I think I will go back to the cheap cleaner/solution/salt route.

I use fairy tablets with rinse aid and salt.. none of them work well without the RA and salt.. though.. finish ones are crap and clog up the pump and filters so don't use those ever!! The temp required to dissolve it is way higher than the economical cycle. I never have watermarks and run on the lowest temp setting which is abut 45' I think.. bosch machine.. and rather wonderful if I might say so myself.

thrifty you could try putting the tablets straight in the bottom/cutlery basket, the ones you put in wrapped this works better with too, many do as soappie has because then you can change it to suit your water etc. Making sure the jets/filter etc are clean is a must. http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=188 interesting reading for appliance geeks like me. I have finish stuff now as very good offer on but have used £1 shop ones with success too. I love the way my hotpoint one cleans but hate the lay out (it's one you can fit more in but such a faff I won't make the same mistake again) Maybe buy some baubles in the sale? I use mainly £1 shop stuff.

Lil_me - thank you so much for posting that link. The parts we're missing are ordered now. We've managed to 'borrow' them from another set but we need the parts to re-complete the old set (I think that makes sense!!). DS loves his new set (this set...http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3504351) and has just told us both he is so, so, so, so, a million so's, lucky!. Nice to know he's happy.

Thrifty - I know what you mean about the cooking. My parents have us over for boxing day and New Years Day but her cooking has got more and more hit and miss. She also stresses big time. DH went to see her today and asked if she'd be offended if he cooked because he's got a new cook book and really wants to make something from it. My mum is over the moon thank goodness!! Now we're really looking forward to New Years Day instead of dreading it - so's my mum - bless her!

I've been s/s ing on and off most of the afternoon. The place is passable but needs a bit more effort tomorrow.

Dusty - apparently the disc we've got is really scratched. It turns out it was the game DH was given it by a work colleague who's dad owns an auction site. We thought it was a new game but when we've looked at it it's very scratched....DH is going to try and clean it. I looked in tesco today but the only racing game I could see was £30 so I'll get something online.

    Right, it's definitely wine o'clock.

    Hugs to all xx

Used to use Lidl tablets plus salt and rinse aid. Since we moved, and our nearest Lidl is now 10 miles away, I've been using Tesco 'Daisy' powder plus salt and rinse aid. To be honest, it's loads better than anything I've used for years....

thanks for the dishwasher comments and especially the whitegoods thing lilme! I am a bit of a geek too. Didn't really think about actually cleaning the DW. Unfortunately I have bought Fairy active burst on BOGOF so have got those to use up! Would it do damage if I put rinse aid in as well?

Eta just read Pigpen's post properly and you have answered this question already sorry:o Have had a glass of wine as my excuse:o
