I agree with soappie and if not tackle it in little steps - 30 mins at the most and then take time to look at the little bit that you have cleared.

Flylady thread does help i was in your situation 3 years ago but have slowly managed to change my ways.

Use your opening post as a "to do" list. Tackle one thing at a time, and give yourself ten minutes off (to post your progress on here :) ) after completing each task.

Once you get started you won't feel half so daunted by it all. Tackle a job that will be immediately noticeable first - maybe the cluttered hall - so you can see results quickly.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Poor you. You must feel like you've got a mountain to climb and you are putting yourself under considerable pressure if you expect to find a place for everything in 2 days.

I couldn't do it in two days. I follow the instructions of the great and glorious FLYLADY who recommends that you take baby steps to regain control over the chaos

Here's her website: http://flylady.net (This is not the same as the MSE Flylady topic which is basically an encouraging support network for housework, once you've sorted the chaos)

It took me a month to sort out my place but once I was organised I could keep on top of things by joining MSE's own FlyLady housework topic.

In the short-term, just arm yourself with bin bags and something like a washing basket. Sling everything into bin-bags and dump them in your spare room. Clear everything out of your bedroom, the front room and the 'hotspots' (places where we tend to dump things) like the hall. You'll be left with clear floor and spaces and a clearer head for tackling the job.

Forget about all the accumulated cast-offs in the spare room for the time being.

Then read FlyLady's instructions for tackling the chaos and for finding a place for everything. You'll see that it's very encouraging and it will give you a light at the end of the dreadful tunnel.

Take heart and don't worry about getting straight in two days - put it out of sight and mind and give yourself some space to think and plan.

Good luck and all the best. I know how you feel.

Big thanks to all of you. Feeling really down but does help knowing you are there. DD wanted to stay home with me but she has had her bf here for Xmas as his Mum has been away. She came back this afternoon so I really feel she needed to take him home to spend some time up there. Thanks again to you all xx
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints - the sinners are much more fun ;)

  • Poppy You know where I am honey......big hugs..... & I'm over on FB :kisses3: Take care xx

Thanks all for your replies - please keep them coming...

The reason I have only 2 days is that my children will be back and I don't like them living in this chaos - that just makes me feel guilty and makes my depression worse, altho I am not too bad atm.

Since I posted, I have removed all the water glasses from my bedroom but made a snack which I now have to clear up after

One thing which really doesn't help me is that we have bi-weekly bin collection which, at this time of year, is not enough and the queue for the tip is always huge so would be a good 2 hour round trip, which I cannot bear to do. Also, my recycling bin is FULL to bursting as they changed the collection day before Xmas and I forgot :o

Another thing is that I have lots of clothes which I keep meaning I will diet into, they are only slightly too small (some still have tags!) and I don't want to put them too far away as they are my inspiration.....
