sian take it back to Tesco
Its ownbrand so they should happily refund it

I don't live anywhere near tesco so would cost more to take it back than it is worth!

I can't do the mix with liquid method as I put the powder etc in and set it all so my bf can switch it on when he leaves for work at 2:30am so it is done for when I get up and correct me if I am wrong (which I probably am!!) it would just run out the drawer.

I will try putting it in the drum next time and how that goes.

Failing that I will have to use it for other cleaning jobs.

Phew! I thought I was going mad lol

I've been using Tesco value powder for a long time and have never had a problem with it clogging up the drawer until recently. The latest pack is the worst ever! It now has the blue bits in it and sets like stone in the dispenser drawer (cold fill machine) Will definitely try using it in the drum on the next wash, thanks for the suggestion!

How many people are using cold fill machines (a lot of newer ones are) ?- I find many powders, incl. the more expensive Bold etc., can also dissolve less well with cold fill! I did change to liquid but have more recently switched back to powder as I believe they clean better, despite a little clogging.
Would you be able to pour a little hot water in the drawer with it at the start?- just to use it up I mean, and then buy a different one. You could take it up with Tesco, never know some vouchers might come your way!
    All the best with bubs!

Hi OrkneyStar, interesting post. I bought my current washer late in 2005, did lots of research inc Which? mags at the library, and all the machines were cold-fill only. Can you buy ones which do hot fill as well? Incidentally, has anyone out there used Lidl's "Formil" washing powder and how well did it perform for you?

  • Lidl's "Formil" is just great, I used to use it in my cold-fill machine, mostly using a programme which didn't heat the water for most washing-loads and also used about half of the recommended dosage and it was just fab. It's also not over-scented either which I much prefer. Give it a try: you could save yourself a packet, especially if you find it on special-offer

Thanks, BitterAndTwisted. My local Lidl has its "Formil" 60 wash size at £6.49 and a pallet of truly monstrous 100 wash size at £8.99 if it hasn't all gone by the time I get up there. So, if I bought the bigger size and used half the recommended dose, I should be good for washing powder until the end of 2012. I'm on it!

I thought it was my machine as it's getting on now in age. I've been getting the leftover powder out with a spoon and bunging it in my drum before the next wash. I have used the wash powder for ages as it doesn't seem to affect my excema like the more expensive powders do (i think it's to do with the fragrance they put in expensive brands)....perhaps i should try aldi's then?

We got ours about 1.5-2yrs ago, and at the time it seemed pretty much all of them were now cold fill (I think I saw one with 'hot fill' but it was very expensive!).
I have used Formil non-bio, like all powders it does clog a little, but washes very well once in there! Of course I now use bio again, as DS is no longer a baby!

I have a cold fill machine and use powder (any cheap one, and half the recommended dose, both for whites and a separate one for colours). I put soda crystals in the drawer and the washing powder on top and white vinegar instead of softener. I don't have any problems with it not disolving and going into the machine.
