Hi all, sorry to barge in on this thread but i too am in the market for a new double mattress. After much research on the matter i am now certain in my mind that i am going to purchase a pocket sprung mattress with a layer of memory foam.
I live in the north east of england and am keen to test any new mattress before i purchase. I am keen to avoid the big name brands as the excellent Tim Deegan has strongly advised.
My research has lead me to a bed manufacturer by the name of Palatine Beds who are based in newcastle, they also have a factory shop so i can test the mattresses.
Does anyone have any previous knowldege of this company and the quality of their products.
The mattress i am considering buying (prior to testing) is this one:
Imperial 1400 Count Pocket Mattress/Memory Foam (No Turn) Mattress
Apologies, but i am not allowed to post links, please follow the instructions below to get to the mattress.
Search for palatine beds on google and enter the website.
GO TO:
SHOP
RETAIL
RETAIL MATTRESSES
(Then select the mattress which is second down in the list)
at a cost of £350 delivered it seems good value, please let me know what you think. (especially tim)
thankyou
Went to:
Shop
Retail
- then it just showed childrens beds0 -

The 'Orthopocket' which was on a slatted base was a 5ft version and I think that may have been the only 5ft base in the shop - it is a small local firm selling furniture and carpets - the beds showroom contained about 8 beds.
My present mattress is a Cumfilux coiled spring type purchased from Bensons in 1988 when I thought all mattresses were the same and the biggest shops the best value. At the time I had some slight backache trouble and chose it because it was quite firm. So most of the mattresses I've tried in the last few days have felt 'soft'.
Well pocket sprung mattresses will feel softer than firm open coil sprung ones. If you do like a really firm mattress then you are stuck with open coil sprung I'm afraid.0 -

I should point out that most of the mattresses that Argos sell are poor quality.0 -
I have just bought the Kozeesleep Ortho Pocket, after much research & advice from here :T. It is lovely - not too firm, I was afraid of what Tim said about perching, rather than it contouring, but it is very supportive.
That's because the springs are actually medium to firm, and not actually firm.0 -

You probably know that I don't like non turn mattress, but that aside it looks ok. You would need to find out the density of the memory foam though.0 -
Hi,
I suffer with middle and lower back pain, and neck pain. I know it's down to my bed, because on holiday I slept on a King Coil ultima mattress which had an attached topper (the topper was not seperate, but stiched on) and my pains completly disappeared. I can't beleive I've suffered for years and not known it was due to my mattress!!
Does anyone know about this mattress and where I can buy it? If not does anyone know of a mattress that is similar?
many thanks,
Noodlecat0 -
..sorry misspelt it is king Koil with a k not a C.

Nice to see this thread still going.
I've had my single Kozee sleep Orthopocket 1500 Mattress for a few weeks now. Love it - mostly. Minor quibbles hardly worth mentioning are: It's slightly too big for my Cloud Nine base (ok ok I should have maybe bought a new base too), Fitted sheets are a tight fit. The thing is also high (as someone pointed out a few posts back) nearly twice that of my old Cloud Nine mattress. My headboard has disappeared! But overall, it's one of my best buys recently. The supplier, Beds123 was so so, failed to turn up on delivery day.
Now I just need Tim to recommend a nice good for the back/neck type pillow! What about these ones around the £30 mark Tim, Worth investing in one?Sealed Pot Challenge 15 #78

I personally have a memory fill pillow. These are actually cheaper than the moulded type, and from what I have been told by people who have tried both, most think they are better. The filling is made up from memory foam triimings, that are then ground up, and go inside a normal shaped pillow. The only problem is that you have to plump them up quite vigorously in the morning. I like a little extra height, so have a feather pillow under it.0 -
Hi everyone,
I'm moving into my first unfurnished room, and need some mattress advice!
I have the lowest budget imaginable, so it's open coils for me.
I've been looking at these mattresses; does anyone know anything about either the specific mattress or simply the manufacturer? Anything at all would be so very helpful!
Joseph Solo mattress
Julian Bowen Classico
La Romantica Oriel
Silentnight Silver
Apollo (Athena or Olympus)
Yorkshire (York or Devon)
Also, I understand from Tim's advice that I ought to find an online retailer with a 100% guarantee. So far I've found Bedlum and Mattress Emporium (basically the same thing it seems) - does anyone else know of any others? Do you have to pay the return postage with these?
Thank you! xxx0
