hi Tim
I am looking to buy a King size pockets sprung mattress, med to firm
following your advise I have avoided the big names and gone to my local independant warehouse. He has a 1000 pocket sprung Winchester mattress made by Premier Beds of Batley West Yorks at £240(about £20 more than on the web) I can find very little about Premier Beds do you know of them, and is this a fair price.thanks in advance mike
Hi Mike.
Yes I do know of them, as I know a retailer who used them because he was related to them. I've never used them because they didn't stand out as being anything special. So it is difficult to comment on them really.
Just make sure whoever you buy from gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to unpack and sleep on the mattress.0 -
Hi Tim,
The Vi spring mattress was not all that, too soft and didn't offer enough support. I was surprised to find the most comfortable mattress at the time was the sleepeezee Toronto 800 pocket sprung K/S. I remembered what you said and tried the 1200 pocket sprung but it was softer than the 800 pocket sprung, doesn't more springs mean more support?
What do you make of the sleepeezee brand?
I have personally owned a Vi-Spring bed in the days before I knew anything about beds. It was given to me, as I would never pay that sor of money. I didn't think it was anything special either, and when I replaced it I got an open coil sprung orthopaedic mattress which I found much more comfortable.
More than 800 pocket springs (in a king size mattress) is enough to do what pocket springs are designed to do. If a mattress has too many springs then in order to fit them all in the mattress they have to be very small, and can get damaged easily. I usually recommend between 1000 and 1800. Many shops will tell you 'the more pocket springs the better', but this is only because they want you to spend more.
Sleepeezee are another very big brand, and are very middle of the range as far as quality goes.0 -
Thanks for the advice Tim, & sorry for the delay, a mixture of a Calais booze run & entertaining the mum-in-law as she kindly dog/house sat over the w/e.
I was kidding to a certain extent re: the turning of a single sided mem. foam mattress as you'd probably not want to keep sleeping on mem. foam one month & not the next! I'm hoping to try a Highgate Rhapsody mattress soon & have noticed that mattsuk dot com have very reasonable prices. (So do Bensons, but I think they're not the most recomended retailer here ;~).
Want to also try a Kozeesleep & Deluxe beds mattress if I can find one locally near Heathrow. Any other thoughts, suggestions or advice peeps?Today, there are 3 kinds of people : the have's, the have- not's and the have-not-paid-for-what-they-have's0 -

When you think how much most of the big bed stores over price, which often means that their sale price is more than you can buy it for at independent shops, then it makes you wonder just what the true value of the Rhapsody is, and how good the quality is.0 -
As someone mentioned this here, I emailed Tempur to find out what they do with mattresses returned after a trial offer.
Here's the reply (sic):The mattresses that are returned are disposed off, given to staff, NHS and some hotels. We do not re-sell returned mattresses. If you happen to proceed with a 60 day Trial, you will receive a Brand New Mattress.
Our mattresses are not sold to a new customer.0 -
