Made one for the first time today. Very nice but needed far longer in my(rubbish oven) than in original recipe.

I made the weetabix cake last night. I didn't have any sultanas so I substituted with half a chopped up chocolate orange and left the spice out.

It was delicious and didn't need margerine on it when eating.

i've just mixed this up and it seems really dry! in fact i can't even mix it properly even though i've put some extra milk in. anyone else had the same problem? i wonder if my up measure is wrong (it was a half cup measure from ikea, obviously i just filled it twice for every cup!)

if someone could tell me what the consistency should be i'd be grateful!
help asap would be welcome as i'm tired and want to get it done before bed - for a pamper afternoon at a hen day tomorrow!!!

Yes, it should be quite a stiff mix, as long as the measures are in proportion you should be fine :)

  • I am going to try the weetabix cake today, but would also like to try the meringues, does anyone have a meringue recipe please? SG
  • I've just made the weetabix cake (sorry I can't find who posted it) but it didn't go to well (and it's the first cake I've made since school!). Took it out after 45 minutes and was very gooey in the middle (although top was getting hard). In the end, had to cook it for a further 35 minutes before it was edible. Then the outside was obviously quite tough.

What am I doing wrong? The temperature on the oven was correct (it's a fan oven so I put it in the middle). Is it supposed to be all heavy and dense like a fruit cake?

    Hi sleepybookworm,

I haven't made the weetabix cake so I've no idea what went wrong but if you have a look through the thread you might find some answers:

    Delicious WEETABIX cake!

I'll add your question to that one later as it may help others who make the cake.

    Hi there

I too made the Weetabix cake and I too failed. Mine was like glue inside after the alloted time and I baked it longer until it was very heavy. DH loved it though, he sliced it and had it with butter. When I put mine back in I put tinfoil over to stop the top getting any browner which helped.
