Try this one final check. Turn the boiler off via the switch on the control panel. Wait a few seconds and then turn it back on. You must have the tv etc turned off 'cos you need to listen to what it does as you turn it on.
The sequence is ..- Fan starts
- A rapid ticking sound as the pilot comes on
- A clonk as the gas valve opens
- Normal ignition
Try and work out how far the sequence gets0 -

Just a hum (a soft hum) I guess just step one, if one is a hum?0 -
It's probably down to the fan, air pressure switch or PCB then. Will take someone no more than 30 mins to work out what. Hopefully it will be the APS, this being the cheapest.0

^^^I think this is maybe getting too far for a non registered person don't you think EliteHeat?
So I agree with EliteHeat it's time to get a competent qualified trustworthy heating engineer in.
Watch out though MrsE sticking ball valves on the header tank are staple diet for a cowboy to get an unnecessary boiler repair (possibly expensive). Householders don't like ferreting about in lofts. An empty fully functioning pump makes a little purring noise. Not quite sure I accept all this crashing and banging senario

Pumps are lubricated by water. If there is none they seize up. If there is no or insufficient circulation I can assure you that it will sound like the boiler is trying to jump off the wall it's attached to.
If you would like to check it out, just disconnect the wiring to your pump.0 -

yeah you are right actually eventually they will go, however the problems were starting shortly before you arrived, anyway probably bad call on my part, bit like the "reset" really, and the differential on the flow and return at the boiler.
you came over possessive half way into this thread, I would just like to say that I saw an opportunity to help, and I felt you to be thoroughly unconsultative, . You have posted as if you are the only heating engineer in the world in my opinion, this is quite definitely your forum. Shame really.
Do you use this forum to tout for work?
