This might be a bit too personal, but I've just turned 25...

Its no more uncomfortably than putting in a heavy flow tampon when your not on your period....feels a bit odd but thats it, your friends must have had a vet do theirs.
Your cervix has no pain receptors so all you will feel is the speculum and a slight sweeping sensation for 5 seconds..max.
I needed to go to the colposcopy clinic after my first smear and even that was a doddle.
good luck0 -
You cervix may have no pain receptors but some women do pass out having touched.......as I have found out!!!!
First happened when I went to STI clinic and then again at last smear I went a bit wobbly, even though had had one before. Apparently there are some kind of nerve endings there that can bring about this response as can having your ovaries manipulate apparently!!!!!
Thing is I really dont mind having the smear so it isn't anxiety, it is just my body going OTT. If I feel a bit ropey I just say and the nurses are great!0 -
i really need to go for another smear and i am absolutely dreading it!
it took me ages to pluck up the guts to go for my first one,
then the results came back inconclusive or something like that, took me another while to pluck up guts for the next one, and the nurse told me that after 3 inconclusives, they do it up the hospital - stirrups and everything. guess what? yup, inconclusive again so now i have to pluck up the guts to go for my 3rd one *sigh*
i know they have seen it all before and all that, and i've even had 2 children naturally & internal scans etc but i still hate it!Can you see the mountains through the fog?0 -
I thought it felt a bit like I needed a wee... not sure if thats normal or not! It definitely wasn't cold though, the nurse I had put the tool thing under the hand dryer by the sink for a few seconds before she did it! :rotfl:
Good idea I thought (although I guess it could be worse if she got it too hot )Whenever I see the regular nurse in town or the library, I can't help but think 'She's seen my f***y' and wonder if she thinks the same thing too!
I think that too hahaha I'm sure she doesn't though. My sister is training to be a nurse and she's done loads, she says it was wierd the first time but now she just gets on with and it's just routine. She's just coming up to the end of her final year so imagine how boring it is for experienced nurses!

Mum of 2 - you've given birth twice and you are brave enough to go skydiving, I'm sure you'll find the guts from somewhere! xThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0

it's the booking the appointment that's the hardest for me, once that's done there's no backing out, IYKWIM
re the skydiving - i just keep telling myself im going to be strapped to some hunky guy who isn't my hubby but SHHHH! don't tell hubby i told you that lmao!:DCan you see the mountains through the fog?0 -
To anyone feeling apprehensive about a smear: it's a lot easier than having some much loved but dozy bloke ferretting around trying to find your G spot :rotfl:
As for the embarrassment - like many other things, the first time is the worst.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
