This might be a bit too personal, but I've just turned 25...

My friend is a nurse and she once told me that they've seen it all before, felt it all before and smelt it all before:rotfl:! There is no reason to be embarrased as your being a responsible adult woman whose taking the time to check that she's healthy.
I do agree with wearing a skirt though, much easier!0 -
My freinds a student midwife and she is no longer embarrassed about anything . Its a big step having a smear , the proffessional that does it will be professional sympathetic and private.. It will be female or a male with a female present, so they know what you look like , smell like , may have a little bit of an unruly lady garden and know your real hair color lmao
Really dont worry .. No embarrasment of their behalf so none on yoursONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -

But its freezing! I'd have to wear my thick woolly tights too and I can just see myself falling over trying to get them off, oh great now I've given myself an extra thing to worry about!0 -

I will definitely be having a shower immediately before, I'm a bit concerned about, ahem. personal grooming though! I don't believe in waxing!
If it makes you feel any better, I went in to the local FPC recently to have the coil fitted, thinking it was going to be the regular doctor I see there, but it turned out to be her daughter (also a GP and helping out at the clinic) who I happened to go to school with!!:eek::eek:
As if that wasn't embarrassing enough as it was, it was her first one and she couldn't find my cervix... She ended up having to get her mum in from the next room - TWICE - and I ended up trying to make her feel better about it as she was embarrassed!:p
So however much you cringe, just remind yourself that it's not as bad as the above!0 -
I was surprised recently to learn that you don't have regular internal examinations anymore when you're on the pill. It's amazing how blaze you get about these when you've had them twice a year from the age of 18!0

Smears are no bother at all. You'll will have had far more uncomfortable feelings than a smear before! It will be over before you know it - (trust me, the nurse doesn't want it to take any longer than you do!).
Have a bath before you go and remember - it could save your life."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I'm 31 and have had loads as well as 2 loop biopsies of the cervix when abnormal cells were found. Hang the embarassemnt, you must must must go for it to check that everything is OK. I've had all my abnormal cells treated and had my first "normal" result about a year ago. Who know where it might have ended if I hadn't gone. And yes, I still find it slightly embarassing, although less so now I've gone through childbirth and having a coil fitted! You do lose many inhibitions in labour, especially if it is a difficult one and the whole brass band seem to be in the room with you :-)

I'm nearly 31 and have only had one and that was years ago, have been pregnant 3 times since then and when this baby is born i really need to get one done. I can give birth and yet i can't get myself to have a smear, it didn't hurt just felt cold and uncomfortable, was worried incase i needed to fart or if my lady garden wasn't tidy. (talking about the smear here, giving birth did hurt) Infact now i think about it its like going to the dentist just more embarrassing. The nurses and doctors must have done loads and seen all sorts, ages and sizes. I'm worried about having mine done after the baby incase they find something wrong where i have left it so long. Can you not arrange something nice as a reward afterwards? i had mine done the day before i went on holiday. I will say to wear a panty liner as i had a very small amount of bloody discharge afterwards and was quite wet/slimey from the vasaline or what ever they use.0

If I've gone wearing trousers I never know whether or not to leave my socks on.0
