That's weird, I still have them once a year. My doctor won't give me the prescription without a proper check up!
Me too. Better to be safe then sorry I think. But I think that only people of certain age are monitored so closely.0 -
Hi iv'e had this done a few times now and it isn't too bad..infact you have reminded me i'm due again. The last time was ok but the time before wasn't and i had to have treatment too so it is pretty important you go tbh. The nurse is usually very chatty and you kinda forget whats going on anyway in a way!..
Good luck you will be fine x0 -
lol at least it will be one or two people in the room not 20 or so I had when I gave birth , not that I cant thank them enough for saving my sons life but being starkers in a pool was not my idea of a holiday .
Plus once you have had a child you will NOT be embarrassed at anything belive me ...ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -
Mine was last week, and might be TMI, but she was in and done in about a minute! Skirts are the way to go, yes it was cold outside, but I'd rather freeze and have it easier. The nurse just pulled the curtain round the bed for me so I could whip my knicks off, there was already a paper sheet on the bed ready so I just hopped on, put the sheet over my legs and waited for her to appear. She locked the door so no-one could come barging in as well.
It's a bit uncomfortable, but it really all depends on how you are. If you're tense and hold your breath it's going to hurt a bit, but if you keep breathing and remember they've probably seen more lady bits than had hot dinners it's over in no time. Afterwards she just gave me a bit of tissue to wipe myself with, and went back behind the curtain so I could sort myself out in private.
I've had loads of nurses check down there this year, twice over an infection, and one got up there with a camera!! (I had IBS type symptoms but a family history of ovarian cancer so I had to get it looked at) So I'm not really bothered about it anymoreDo good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0 -
you'd think after having a child and 13 people waiting you give birth you'd think i'd be over the fear of a test but nope i am scared silly still so you are not alone x0

I once apologied to the nurse doing my smear test, saying that it must not be a very nice job for her. (this was in my young and embarassed days
).
She replied by saying that she had to do a lot of jobs that were an awful lot worse than doing a smear test, and that this didn't even make it onto the bottom of the scale of unpleasant jobs!
Made me feel better anyway - it really is just routine to them.0 -
They are very brisk and matter of fact about it which makes it a lot easier. I've had it done several times now and while it's not going to be on my list of fave things to do, it's not a problem. It hasn't ever been painful, just maybe slightly uncomfortable. I'd second wearing a skirt and going to family planning if you can.
And you do feel really pleased with yourself for going0 -
Its annoying that being under 25 they (family planning clinic/gp) won't give me oneThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I had my first smear earlier this year aged 30:o. I'd put it off for years as I was too embarressed to go even though I have a 7 year old child so it's not like I'd never got my "bits" out in public before!! I went just before Jade Goody died, that's what pushed me into doing it because she was younger than me.
The nurse was fantastic and really put me at ease as I was clearly really nervous/embarressed! Although she did actually slap me on the arm when she found out there was a history of cervical cancer in my family and I'd never been before!
Overall, it was fine. A little bit uncomfortable and a bit embarressing but generally okay! (Apart from the fact I never thought about what knickers to wear and went for tragic pink ones with monkey's on!!!!!!:o:rotfl::o)
Hope it goes ok
