Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

That might just be because I have a very pretty foof though :D

    That made me laugh!!

OK yep I'm one one those that does find it painful and very embarrassing, but I have still always been when I have been called for one. I know I know 'relax' but honestly hard as I try some nurse is about to stick a speculum where I would rather her not!

My first smear all was fine afterwards but the second I did have a little blood, which is apparently nothing to worry about but just because she had been poking around up there as my cervix was hiding! So don't worry if you get a bit of discharge afterwards as they use some 'lube' and sometimes have to poke about a bit!

OK I will admit to leaving the surgery at high speed though, and was most relieved when all came back fine and I didn't have to go back!

Honestly sometimes I was I were a man!

My mum out off having hers fro a few years then when she did go had abnormal cells, luckily it was nothing serious but she always goes and has instilled it in me how important it is. They've seen it all before, they look at people's bits all day! :) Ma says its a bit uncomfortable but its over really quickly.

I had my first when I was 21, its not the nicest experience in the world but it didn't hurt at all. The nurse didn't stop talking about ice skating of all things - I was dying to tell her to shut up! But it really wasn't as bad as I thought, I wore a dress so I wasn't completely naked from the waste down and they cover you over anyway - I was out after about 5 minutes.

Don't put it off, it's important and five minutes of embarrassment every few years is not that big a deal.

Or if you want to put a smile on their faces go for an interesting colour or a bit of tasteful topiary.

I remember a story of a woman in a rush and gave herself a quick wash, not realising her daughter had the flannel before her with glitter ... raised a smile i reckon

I can't help but chuckle at the word "foof" :rotfl:

Seriously though, I was a little embarrassed the first time I went for one, but it more to do with the fact that I actually went to school with the nurse. :D
I find it helps if the nurse doing the test is chatty and jokey that seems to put me more at ease than a nurse who is a bit aloof.
My only real complaint is that the duberry that's inserted into your "foof" :rotfl:(can't help it) :rotfl: is bloody cold, you can't exactly ask the nurse to either blow on it or warm it up in their hands before they start.

Please don't try and tense up as that does make it more uncomfortable, but it will all be over in a matter of seconds and will be worth all the hassle just to get an all clear. Also by getting it over with now you won't have it prying at the back of your mind if you try and put it off.

Really, it's nothing to worry about.

Have a shower before you go, relax on the table, think about something else, and it's over in a few ticks.;)

    It could save your life.

One thing about giving birth, once you've done that, nothing else can ever make you embarassed in front of medics again lol:eek:

Seriously, medics have seen all shapes and sizes of bodies - to them, it's just a job and you are one of many they see in a day.

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Your right about that, by the time you go into labour it seems every one has seen what you got, dignity what's that then.

Like what everyone has already stated it is an important check up a woman has, and it does not hurt (shouldn't anyway) just a lil cold. over and done with in a matter of minutes.
