easy application - the usual unaffordable quote coming from it for a young driver in mummy's car.

Google. Awkward site to use. Gives results in the order it thinks based on other peoples choice, rather than the cheapest descending. Probably the worst comparison site I have used to date
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • Having worked my way through the required info, and asked for the quotes, I agree that the responses were clear and appeared to be reasonable, from £188.60 to over £1,300!?!

However, there was no point in following it up, because only asking for the quotes did I realise that the "owner" became my wife, although listed as an additional driver, while I was nowhere to be seen.

It could be that I misread the questions asked about additional drivers... but we have had dual car insurance for nearly 50 years, so I do have some experience!

First time I've tried to use them and I couldn't get past the occupation fields. Browser just kept hanging and the lists wouldn't work. Gave up. Pretty poor considering it's Google's website.
  • Google site seems good - gave me £179 from Lloyds against £316 from existing insurers RAC. Keeping fingers crossed.
  • Went gaily through the questions until it got to Driver. Asks me to add a driver. It is only me who is going to drive the vehicle. No way to continue and the Continue button was greyed out.
Not very helpful, to say the least! First time I've tried Google - and probably the last.

It's a pain having to fill in your personal and vehicle details on every comparison site, this one kept sending me back to parts which I had already completed. I gave up in the end after 3 attempts.
  • Just renewed my car insurance and got £70 off my insurers price via Google Compare. It was also around £20-£30 cheaper than the other comparison sites for the same insurer.

Strangely, after having asked for quotes on a monthly basis, then changed to annual payment, all the prices went up. When I switched it back to monthly all the prices went down again. APR is 29.9% so I've no idea how that happened. But I'd planned to pay monthly anyway so just stuck with the lowest price.
  • I think the trick is to click on the wee icon with your name and ignore the 'New' button. That activates the greyed out button
  • My neighbor had a serious got his insurance from google
